looking for Bogota sewing and leather factories

I will be in Colombia the month of August.I am searching for exceptional factories that can sew great apparel. Also a factories that can produce exceptional leather bags, made with the finest leathers.

I will be designing the bag and the apparel. I cannot afford to deal with U.S. sewing factories which charge so much money.
Labor in Colombia is much cheaper from what I hear.

If anyone has info on factories, please let me know.

Thank you,
caribgirl

Factories Hi
Well, im from bogotá i know a little about this subjet. all i can tell is the "real kigs" of leather are not in the Andino shoppin mall. What the do is to buy the prodcut at the place im gonna tell.

There is a location (a neighboor) in the south of the city called "San Benito". Is not a nice place but thats where u can find ALL factories of leather.
I used to work in a factory that make all the finishin on the seats of the MAZDA and CHEVROLET cars (in leather) and we used to buy from:

- Pieles y acabados. Nice quility
-Curtiembres el Reno. There are 3 brothers that work on that. The engineer in charge is a nice person. But he talks a lot. Nice quality but there are not regular. The procces comence since the get the leather, make the blue process and they give the finishing and make the delivery. I dont know if the do sewing process.

If they dont do what u need, then maybe they can guide u and tell u whos' the best person or factory that works on what u need.

I hope this was helpfull

Thank you so much for the information. I have made a copy of the advice and will make sure to follow it. I am looking for someone who is creative and does great custom work.

I am also looking for leather in colors such as red, royal blue and such. Would I need to find a leather dyer also? How much is high quality leather going for in Colombia?

Thank you again for all of the informative responses.

try bucaramanga hello caribgirl
you should also consider Bucaramanga for leather work. I was at a leather fair here in out city a few months ago. and I can tell you there was very nice leather bags, jackets, shoes and other kinds of stuff to be seen. Bucaramanga is 45 minutes flight north east of Bogotá. and don't worry its safe here. I have been here for 1 1/2 years and yet to see any one get robbed or murdered. if you have any questions about our beautiful city please do ask thanks Vic

Medellin is the Capitol of Apparel Largest textile fair in Colombia is in Medellin where most of the factories are located as well.

Large companies such as EVERFIT make many of the brand name clothes you see in US stores, such as Tommy Hilfilger and Pierre Cardan. They have thier own excellent designers and brandnames too. There are also small artesan type businesses like the house in front my apartment in Medellin where all the girls in the family work day and night making school uniforms by hand.

I will be traveling to Colombia alone. So I do not know how much I would be able to travel out of Bogota to Medellin and feel safe.

I am also more interested in smaller factories that do high quality work, but do not require high minimums. I am just starting out in business and my runs will be small #'s. More like 200-500 pieces of one items.

I very much would like to get a room for rent and have someone who is willing to go with me to places rather than stay in a hotel.
I also need to be near my doctor who is in Centro Almirante Colon.Boy, I know I'm asking for alot:)
Thank you everyone for your patience and the time taken to answer questions in such helpful manner.

Im in the process of creationg my own business, so i have to make a poll to ask questions to some "posible" customers. Thats why i made a database from the next COLOMBIAMODA 2004 in which several factories, from the smallest to the big ones will be present.

I know a lady... ...who has a small facory quite close to downtown Bogota. If you do not speak Spanish, it could be a lot of trouble to work things out. If you wish to find out more, let me know at rick_davis7 at hotmail.com and I will give you the email of the lady's niece...my prometida.

They are curently running a lot of small contracts. It could be a good contact for you if you can get past the language problem. My prometida is studying English, but would not be at a level to be of much help to you yet.

At any rate, let me know how things work out for you.

Very best regards -gunner (Galveston, TX USA)
