In april we visited every so called musical instrument store in Medellin and its nothing like in the states.. Even most of the local musicians we talked to do their buying in Bogota.. Tower records in Tesoro has an instrument section with the largest (nothing spectacular) selection around, but remember its a CD store.. The other music stores are so small that their is really no selection at all.. These stores are nothing like what you find in the states.. I hope this helps, in advance..............

I too recommend bringing your own steel string from the US. Better to have a hardshell case, buy bubble wrap and the UPS stores sell guitar size boxes. Check it as one of your two checked items. I know you are like me and make multiple trips every year so lugging hard to get stuff on the plane is totally feasible. "World economic indicators point to a democrat winning 2008. Catfish35 says on Jun 15, 2008, 08:22: Thanks all..for the effort. It is to a present. I can buy in the states, just didn't want the headache of something cumbersome to worry about on the airplane and thought for sure they had a store here for that stuff. peace "So many guns, and so few brains". sam spade 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

rocinante says on Jun 15, 2008, 08:53: Catfish - if it is a present for an aspiring Colombian musician I'd go nylon string. Sweeping statement alert: No one in Colombia plays a steel string guitar - even Juanes who is endorsed by Fender. "World economic indicators point to a democrat winning 2008. It will surely be Obama.
