Looking for a little advise on my new website, coming soon

HI all. I’ve been busy over the Christmas period working on a classified website for buying, selling, renting apartments or room share, items wanted, looking for work, services offered etc, where ever you might be in Colombia. The site is fully dynamic, you can place as many adds as you like to the appropriate sections, add pictures, edit adds at any time and also in Spanish & English. It is also possible to add comments or rate it regarding a certain product, so if someone gets a bad service or bad product you can let people know of the experience on there advert so people will be aware of it.

As you will see (This week some time, I hope) the website is just bare bones at the moment and still needs a bit of work to get it to where I want it to be. The site is totally free to add as many adverts as you like, so go nuts. There will a charge for main advertisements on the principal pages for the bigger companies but I don’t want to ruin the site by putting banners everywhere. I will design the banners and choose the company’s carefully so any suggestions on this section would be appreciated.

This site is developed to help people find what ever they might be looking for(of course), so, if you know people or a person who runs a good service for instance or sells good products at good prices, you can add them to the site.

If you have any suggestions or comments, I am all ears.

Paul

Thanks for that Enrique, it´s a little overwhelming with all the links on the page but got a few additions from it.

I´ve just uploaded it to the server and waiting on the correct permissions to be set, then i will do some testing of course and let you know the URL. I can´t tell you now as it will be hackable until i change a few things.

Waterdawg, sure, i´ll let you know when i´m in a position to start advertising properly.

Sounds like a craigslist. Nevertheless, I hope it works.

Cheers Aztex. Craigslist has been going for over 12 years and gets billions of hits a month. This site is mainly for Colombia but also with the view in the future of advertising Colombian products abroad, but, from what i hear, it’s very expensive to ship things out of here.

I´ll play it by ear and mould the site accordingly with what works and what doesn’t.

It´s free for people to use how they like, buying a selling anything from houses to budgies. I will be charging companies who would like extra exposure buy placing adds on the appropriate sections or on the principal page.

A Paisa friend wanted to start a similiar website until I told her about http://colombia.en.craigslist.org/ then she decided otherwise.

That's what Craiglist is all about. It has put so many freakin' newspapers out of business in such a short time, too bad for them. Now it's FREE to place ads which are seen by millions around the world.

craigslist Real estate ads charge a fee I think in certain highly populated areas. I think the owner makes about 12 million per year off of the site.

Medellin Traveler, have you made any income off of the google ads placed on your site? I am looking to experiment with SEO and google ads, etc.

It´s a huge site to say the least with nine billion page views per month!
My site is a bit more personal, prettier and very user-friendly. I wont be becoming a millionaire out of this, i´ll be happy if i cover my costs and time spent on it.

NO!

Absolutely NOT!

I'm working on a few different ideas, but in reality, I believe it will take more time.

In the meantime, I will continue to make trips to Medellin and search out important and valuable information to add to the site. There have been some minor benefits thus far, hopefully an opening for more opportunities in the future.
