Kalder y demas londinenses...
Have you ever been to the Colombian market in Brixton? Or is that area too rough for you?
I see Kat1 is living in britain but not in London?
Silly question really but I was just imagining Kalder buying your weekly ration of revuelto y carne jajajaj as well as having some breakfast colombian style....

Cerealkiller says on Jul 8, 2007, 10:08: I have only been to the Carling Academy for concerts and once to La Mazorca, never been to the market. I have heard there is a quite nice up and coming part of Brixton, IMO Brixton looks like a rather rough area and I wouldnt go there on my own. Mr X says on Jul 8, 2007, 10:46: Brixton used to be a pretty rough burrough but it's changed a lot and is now considered upwardly mobile. Well most parts of it is, anyway. Just looks at the property prices ! It's become a desirable area to live in. I wouldn't be seen dead there, but that's just my opinion.

LA_MONA says on Jul 8, 2007, 10:53: Property prices in the whole of London are sky high, first time buyers have it tough. Brixton is in the Lambeth borough and I wouldn't say it's considered upwardly mobile, when people hear brixton they think of gangs, shootings and other crimes but that is becoming common place in the whole of London, it's becoming quite scary.... Cerealkiller says on Jul 8, 2007, 10:56: I did not like the food and I did not like paying 6 pounds for an arepa. I am not fond of most Colombian dishes as I am a vegetarian, and never had them growing up in Bogota...I do like the odd arepa though, and the only place I where I can get the frozen Don Maiz ones is in Elephant and I just cant be bothered to go all the way there, plus I dont like the area either. I would like to know more about this Mambo's place though, where abouts in Fulham is it? Are you living in London? Mr X says on Jul 8, 2007, 11:21: La Mona, I think it's probably considered upwardly mobile mostly by the estate agents trying to sell there. But it is changing rapidly and not anywhere near as bad as it was in the 80's. Now it's no worse than a lot of other areas, and better than some. Do you really think that London is scary? It's still one of the safest capitals in the world. Now, Manchester, that's scary.

Cerealkiller says on Jul 8, 2007, 11:22: Mona I am clueless as to flours, and I will probably sound like a retard but i thought arepas were made with corn flour? I dont think I have seen corn flour at my local supermarket...I am pretty sure my home made arepas would suck anyway...I do have an arepa parrillita here at home... LA_MONA says on Jul 8, 2007, 11:37: MrX - jajaj well it has got to do with a colombian place in London? A market :-/ not sure if it qualifies...and beleive me London is getting quite bad, I have never been to Manchester, is it that bad? Para volar, es preciso tener resistencia. -M.Lin |

Man Tequila says on Jul 8, 2007, 12:39: As before, I still get a real kick of all these seasoned Colombian travellers saying how dangerous it is to go to a London neighbourhood. Manchester? Got some relatives there -- you might not want to be seen dead there, but that might be your only choice! Kidding! Cerealkiller says on Jul 9, 2007, 04:34: Is manchester really that bad? Im off to Manchester on August the 1st and I have no idea as to what to expect. I was thinking it would be a little like York, which is a stinky place but pleasant enough...Ok Im scared now :( Conservatives are not necessarily stupid, but most stupid people are conservatives -John Stuart Mill |

kalder says on Jul 9, 2007, 08:58: I got chased around the Elephant twenty five years ago by a gang of black guys. I thought taking to my toes was simpler than trying to explain to them that not all skinheads were Nazis. :) "kalder- have you ever had a woman?"--Sam Salmon |

Mr X says on Jul 9, 2007, 12:09: Mona, Manchester is the only place in the UK and possibly Europe where guns are a fashion accessory. They don't seem to use them a lot but it seems that nearly every male between the ages of 15 to 50 has got one.

|
kalder says on Jul 10, 2007, 00:54: X- There's a lot of truth in what you say. I remember when handguns first made their appearance in any significant numbers over here, about 20 years ago. It was in Manchester. "kalder- have you ever had a woman?"--Sam Salmon |

larumberainglesa says on Jul 10, 2007, 12:44: Leeroy - I lived in Coldharbour Lane, Brixton for a bit too! Went up to London to La Mazorca a few weeks ago. Food not all that but go for the dancing. I prefer the little market in Seven Sisters to the Elephant (aesthetic reasons really). One of my friends (English) who came to La Mazorca had travelled round Colombia but has essentially lived a very upper middle class life so I didn't tell her about the drunk guy at the bar with a gun tucked into his trousers (and who indicated in a drunken way if I wanted to dance with him). Me hize la loca. When we got back to her flat my husband mentioned it and she said if she'd known she would have left. Was that the real flavour of Colombia or was it just Brixton? Dunno.I believe the only police who carry guns are in Heathrow airport and some parts of Manchester though I think Nottingham is one of the most dangerous cities in the UK.
