Pardon me, on re-reading that post I see that its a US Lady looking for a husband from south of the border and is in need of $20k, Good Luck to her that one! If the guy has 20K he doesn't need her! Well anyhow, all the guy needs to do is what a while and be a recipient of Free Amnesty LOL

One more thing Mike I don't know what knew you are reading, but amnesty is anything but a guarantee. If the Democrats cannot recapture the house in November, it will not happen in the forseeable future.

Gomezman, maybe you misunderstood me,,, I'm sure not in favor Amnesty but some in both parties are pushing for it. Any Politician who does has lost my Vote. Its not just a Democrat thing G5, last I knew Bush along with Mccain, Mel martinez and a slew of Democrats also are behind it. None of these guys aforementioned would get me Vote, that was a deal breaker,,,,,,

I did not say it's a democratic thing I realize that this is a Bush initiative. But, the last amnesty bill barely won in the Senate, however it lost by a huge margin in the House. So for the most part, with the exception of Bush and the few idiotic Republican senators that were strong armed by Bush, (or supported him out of loyalty to him), this measure has by far and away mostly Democratic support. If it was not for the Republicans who voted against it in the House, we would have had a new amnesty lae a few months ago.

As of this time, the earliest we could possible have a new amnesty bill, is after the the new congress is seated next January. My prediction: Teh Democrats will not take over the house, there will be no compromise, and bill will never see the light of day on the floor of the House.....hence no amnesty at all in the forseeable future.

I think that the Republicans are going to be wiped out in November. I don't know anyone who is voting Republican and most of the people I know are like myself and haven't voted Democrat in many years. But this year we're pissed and it's out with those bastards. They haven't done a damm thing about energy and to me that is most pressing national security issue. If a Third World country like Brazil can become energy self-sufficient, why can't we? LACK OF POLITICAL WILL!

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

Gomezman--I realize if it wasn't for Jim Sensenbrenner(R-wi) we would be looking at something different. I am hoping his iniative passes and that includes Border security and closure first before anything else can be discussed. Sensenbrenner does not want a repeat of Reagan's 1986 IRCA Amnesty legislation(leaving the door open) and the problem then was that in granting this Amnesty(irca)He did nothing to seal the Border and as a result we have anywhere between 12-20 Million Illegal ALiens(either those who entered the coutry illegally or absconded on their Tourist/student type Visas-these folks are now Criminals). Subsequent Presidents really have done nothing either to rectify the problem so Bush or whoever needs to come up with how we deal with these lawbreakers before any talk of Amnesty is discussed. Personally I don't see where these types would make good US Citizens as they broke the Law from Day One, either by entering illegally OR by overstaying their Visas. If they cannot be trusted on this important matter, what can they be trusted on?? I welcome ALL legal Immigrants but not Illegals or overstayers of visas.
Lady Liberty Welcomes Immigrants but not the Illegal variety. To those who say otherwise I ask, do we simply throw the Doors wide open to all peoples regardless of How Many? Explain to me how we deal with Unlimited Immigration for all?

UTC-I agree with you on the energy, it has been neglected totally, really for 20+ years the truth be told. I think it was a grave error to grant that Huge Tax(up to $100,000) Break to SUV owners who purchased Gas Guzzling Behemoths weighing 8000 pounds(getting 4-6 mpg) or more in Dec 2003. How did a law like this encourage conservation? And worse it was passed just before going into a War,,,

Had we stayed on the Conservation Program outlined in the Late 70s we too may now may be Energy independent like Brazil but the program was kicked to the street so to speak. Vehicular CAFE standards were lowered, alternative fuel research was essentially shelved funding wise so now we find ourselves at the Mercy of these Diaper Headed Mullahs and Sheiks,,, our bad,,, Many AMericans themselves to are at fault, here in Miami I see lots of Folks riding Solo in their Huge Trucks, suvs ect for a 3 block trip to the Grocery when they could walk or Bike just as easy, we have become a Nation of Lazy people sad to say. Wait 'til Gas gets up to $5+/gallon then see if these same people are still driving 3 blocks in their huge Vehicles LOL....These same drivers obviously know Nothing about Car Engines or they would know firing up a car motor for a short run does the engine harm as far as extending the motor's life,,, Why do think Long Haul Truckers and those who operate Diesel Locomotives seldom turn the Engines off when they head into the Coffee shop for an hour, less damage to the Motor to keep 'em running.

If she is in Mexico it could very well be 20,000 pesos which is 1800 USD. Not very likely she is anything worth looking at. Plus the Mexican women have a gene that makes their bodies change when they hit 30. It is the same gene that makes the inflatable life rafts work when you pull the cord.

As for the Amnesty bill, that is one of the deciding factors in my plan to soon move to Colombia. They are now estimating 30 million of them are here. It is probably more like 50 million. Regardless of the numbers once the 11-50 million of them gain amnesty (which they most likely will) each of them have 3-8 children that are also going to need amnesty, food stamps, welfare, goverment sponsered health care, government sponsered housing, ect.

All these idiots in Washington can see is the potential voters as they continue to give themselves a raise each and every year. Lewis Black said to the Democrats: "For you Democrats not to be able to find a candidate that could beat George W. Bush, it would be like finding a normal person who would lose at the special olympics".

The sad part is the 2008 election will be even worse. Kerry, McCain, Hillary, Cuntaleeza Rice? I will not vote for any of them. The USA is a country that was fought for and will now be
given away. When we have to press "1" for English and avoid saying things that may offend a Muslim, this place is done with. I will be living near the beach in Santa Marta with my Colombian wife and my 2 dogs as I watch CNN and laugh at the people who told me I was crazy to move to Colombia.

two cents, or maybe less Don't usually get involved in the political discussions on the board, but this is something I feel strongly about so why not.

For a forum largely about living in another country, the consensus seems to be pretty tough on immigration. Don't give me the semantic arguement about legal immigrants being different from the illegals that everyone is yelling about, they are both foreign people looking for a better life and the American dream. So what are your arguements against immigrants? I'll agree the borders should be monitored for security risks. This isn't what we are talking about though or we would be building a wall along the Canadian border also.

What? You think you are losing your jobs to the immigrants? When was the last job interview you went to and lost out to someone that barely speaks english. If you are losing your jobs to immigrants, you seriously need to reevaluate your life.

Afraid that naturalization or amnesty is going to be a burden on social services? Bullcrap. I have enough rental property to have tenants from every demographic group, and let me tell you all the immigrant tenants put a hell of a lot more into the system than they draw. I do have quite a few tenants that were born here that I would like to deport though! Oh, and complaining about the immigrant family having too many children, obviously you're not from a catholic family.

I'm sure that many immigrants do not fit the stereotype and, yes it is a stereotype, but the vast majority of immigrants I have ever known have also been the hardest working people I have ever known.

Lastly, we are facing a huge deficit of workers in the coming years when the boomers start to retire. Medicare is already in trouble and SSI will soon be there because we are paying out more than taxes are collecting. Why not put these 11-12 million people on the books paying taxes? Spend a fraction of the amount we spend on keeping them out to help them get adjusted (i.e. english lessons).

Just my two cents worth, but I've put my life on the line and fought for the American dream that you enjoy and I'll be damned if I will deny someone else that dream.
joe.

posted below is a copy of research summation from the National Immigration forum:
Immigrants Are Net Contributors to Social Security and Medicare - The total net benefit (taxes paid over benefits received) to the Social Security system in today’s dollars from continuing current levels of immigration is nearly $500 billion for the 1998-2022 period and nearly $2.0 trillion through 2072. Our population is aging, and each worker will be supporting a growing population of retirees. Immigrant workers will be an essential component to solving the long-term problem of financing Social Security.

Immigrants are a Plus for our Economy - Immigrants and their children bring long-term economic benefits to the United States as a whole. Immigrants add about $10 billion each year to the U.S. economy. This estimate does not include the impact of immigrant-owned businesses or the impact of highly skilled immigrants on overall productivity.

Immigrants Pay Their Way - By conservative estimates, immigrant households paid an estimated $133 billion in direct taxes to federal, state, and local governments in 1997. The typical immigrant and his or her descendants pay an estimated $80,000 more in taxes than they will receive in local, state, and federal benefits over their lifetimes.

Naturalized Immigrants Pay More than Their Share - Immigrants who become U.S. citizens typically pay more in taxes than do native-born Americans. Adult, foreign-born, naturalized citizens actually have higher adjusted gross incomes (averaging $40,502) than families with U.S.-born citizens only ($35,249). Federal taxes paid by families with a naturalized citizen average $6,580 per year compared with $5,070 for U.S.-born-only families.

I can't forget the kids sleeping on the steps of the Catholic church in Cali. The first thing I always did was take pesos there so they could eat something and wanted to do a Master's thesis on homeless kids in Cali. I'll keep my mouth shut, now.

I have nothing Immigrants as they are Legal with status and I welcome them to he USA. People who are in the USA without status are techically Illegal Aliens. They have broken our law by being here without status, its that simple,,,,

Immigrants, illegal or otherwise As said, I do not believe the argument against illegals because they are illegals is any arguement at all. The only difference between legals/illegals is the process by which they stay here.

You may argue their integrity, that they would break the law, but do we really need to get into the never-ending debate about the sanctity of laws. How much of a scum bag was Dred Scott for arguing that he was not a possession but a person. Laws are not for the individual to decide, but they must also be held to a reasonable man standard and put into context. Most of the people on this board have seen the conditions that perpetuate themselves outside our borders. How far would you go to provide your family, your children, with a better future? These people aren't robbing banks, they're working 50-60 hours a week or more.

Anyway, its an endless debate. The net effects of an open immigration policy on our economy can be skewed for either side. I just can't get behind denying someone the right to life, liberty, and happiness as we enjoy it, especially when it will only effect me marginally at most.

Can we all agree that, the effects of the present level of immigration (legal or otherwise) on ourselves and our economy, are the LEAST of our problems right now (that's pronounced "middle east, energy policy, deficit and government spending, slowing economy with growing inflation, etc." with an accent mark above "deficit and government spending")

Up until 50 years or so ago There was NO SUCH THING AS AN ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT. People pretty much marched in. They had to take a medical exam upon arrival, which was paid for out of public funds. That was it!

Anybody who arrived then or had their ancestors arrive that way is just being a HYPOCRITE because if it weren't for the then OPEN BORDER your ass might not be living here right now.

Of course then there is the fact that this country is rapidly going to hell in a handbasket and one has to even wonder how much longer it will be DESIRABLE for an immigrant.

Look at it this his way,,, we have Millions from SubSaharan Africa and Haiti who would love to come here -is there any reason we can't swing the doors wide for them also, say 5 million or so between Miami, Chicago,Seattle, NYC, LA, Houston? Now remember they would be as equal as any south american as far as being welcomed(all about equality here in he USA right); I am willing to bet they would not be met with open arms,,,Nor should they, Immigration has to be realistic and that means defining who is an Immigrant and who isn't. We have those laws on the Books and hopefully they will be reinforced again in the near future. If we need more workers, let those industries in need filed for H1 Workers Visas. If that law needs to be amended to Legally bring in more workers, then let our Lawmakers amend the law and have legal workers here. Speaking for myself, when I go to Colombia or Korea, Japan, I abide by their Immigration rules. When my time is up I go home so I hold others to the same standard, when the time is up-bye bye Seems most Americans on this board play by that rule also in that they make a great effort to have their Fiancees come to the USA via the Legal Visa route; why is wrong to expect others to do the same?

I am married to a Colombiana. It took me two years and over 10,000 USD to get her here. So when these idiots we have elected want to alllow illegal aliens to stay, yes I have a problem with that.

He had a Belly on him and he used to live North of the Subic Naval Base(in Angeles City) with his little Phillipina wife. Ask your Buddy if he ever worked the MSC Oiler with the ship's name Hassyampa, then based out of Subic 1982-1985. He was real big, used to fire the 30 cal line throwing gub one handed!
