Locked Up Abroad: Colombia

So there I was a couple days ago in front of the TV switching channels and chit when I see this gringo guy all sweaty, terrified and exhausted running up and down a jungle with guerrillero type dudes holding machine guns behind and in front of him shouting at the poor bastard "keep running! gringo hijueputa!"
What the fok is this? it turns out to be a dramatization of a guy named Glen Heggstad, kidnapped by ELN soon after leaving Medellin’s city limit on his motorcycle.
I don’t mean to scare any gringos going to his favorite spot for colombian chucha, but this documentary is not the best thing to watch if you’re already there or thinking about going there. No! this did not happen over 10 years ago, it was not too long ago.
The program is repeated this Saturday (9-29) at 4pm on the National Geographic Channel under the title “Locked Up Abroad: Colombia.
Thank you!

The chances of me, a 100% spic, driving a nice car somewhere in Long Island, NY and getting stop by cops then getting my face smashed in, are 50-50.

Then you got the Lou Dobbs, Bill O’Reilly, Hennesy and company that are total racist dick heads taht really deserve to go thru what this guy went thru.
If I were a guerrillero commander I’ll treat the above dick heads a LOT more BRUTAL than a guy like Glen.
I’ll make one hell of a compassionate guerrillero, bu will show no MERCY TO DICK HEADS

Mona in Barranquilla, outside of the wealthy also infatuated with American culture, the likes of what you see in cachaco cities, are mostly down to earth and very proud people who enjoy all that is Colombia. .
Just look at these kids in barranquilla how passionate they are about their music. And no! is not all about music, but other things too.

Mona - if you can, a bunch of us are hanging in Barranquilla for Carnaval. Now the city is very different during that time, but you'll get a pretty good idea of the culture there. Only issue I have is that in order to get in places, you gotta leave early, which means no time to catch a nap to shake off the drinking from earlier. One long ass day......over....and....over. I'll be back in January for more. Jejejeje.

He stopped eating on purpose and they thought he was going to die. He also would poke his motorcycle keys up his nose and drip the blood onto his pants saying it was the prostrate cancer. Good thing it wasn't your typical N. American that tried starving himself to death, he would last months with that surplus blubber.

I think Festival del Vallenato is in March or April in Valledupar, would be cool to go but if even Elmo says it's dangerous then it is...but I would love to go.

Rubi - This ain't the thread to try to convince anyone about BAQ. Bogota's just the capital. Yes, it has more to do regarding nightlife than any other city, but it's the capital, it should.

There are completely different cultures in Colombia outside of Bogota. Way better. Besides, to me, the cold and rainy deal gets old quickly.

By the way, Delta just applied for new direct routes into 4 major Colombian cities from JFK and ATL. I'll be in Colombia more than before, if that was possible.
