Local Safety Issues Central Colombia

I do not know about other regions for that matter, but was told by my wife today...FYI to all, security has changed much in the Valle Del Cauca region...many locals are at risk and are being investigated/singled out do to people in much decline financially and the lack of food and work within the last quarter. She now refuses to even take any "LOCAL" buses and will only call on taxi's certified or if private that are well known family to family even though the costs are way too much ($30 between towns)! I am not exaggerating here. We have been on pins and needles for quite awhile but now incidents are more frequent and the local police are of no help. If taking long distance buses through some regions, do your homework well before traveling as not all roadblocks are good ones. I pray this is a hump to get over in hopes of regional business start-ups and the like but... If anyone has heard anything similar please chime in.

I don't think it is a peso thing.....the strenght of the colombian peso to the dollar has made alot of items much less expensive.

Big screen TV's are waaaaay down from where they were six month ago in Cali.
