Ha Ha. Esanch, My uncle jokes that Armenia is the "Miracle City" because it is so close to Pereira and yet all the women aren't whores.

papiChulo says on Jul 16, 2008, 10:42:

now now fellas... lets not generalize the good women of Pereira. If it wasn't for biz interests in Medellin I would move there. The people are really nice and the city has everything Medellin has mas o menos and hotsprings 1/2hr drive away for me tired worn out ol' body.

I'm not greedy I just want a lot.

Pls friends, tell me more about this area, especially Armenia. And if I wanted to drive down to the Pacific Coast to Nuqui where supposedly the best surf in Colombia is. How is the road, and the security status? Best girlfriend Ive ever had in many years in Costa R. and Panama was from Armenia. Plus I have met other Colombians from that area and have found them exceptionally nice and friendly and anxious to help. I appreciate your insights........

Quantum, about surfing in Nuquí:

It´s not a technical article or anything and it is in Spanish, but it did come out today, which is pretty cool. I´m hoping to get there later this year myself, definitely some good buzz about it.

If you want to live long and happy...forget the moto, they are nothing short of complete danger. Check with your local hospital and they will tell you that if you get in an accident with a moto you will be lucky of you do npt come out alive. 99.5% of the people who drive motos in Colombia have a combined IQ of 4.

It is not life that matters, but the journey.

Hey, I'm normally a pacifist, but I'm married to a Pereiran woman (who got married a virgin, buy the way. It wasn't my idea.)

So I'd like to cyber-punch some of you smart-alecks in la jeta (your big mouths).

Seriously, this is one odd defect in Colombia: the regionalist stereotypes. Everyone in Colombia knows what the ________ (fill in blank with any Colombian region but your own) are like.

Oh yeah, unless you like death, forget the moto.

I plan on moving to Pereira someday, so keep me posted OP.

August, thnx for the lead. Checked it out. Oh no, los Brasilenos ya han llegado. If Souza brings all his amigos from Sao Paolo o Rio, the FARC will be clearly outnumbered and outgunned.......theres supposed to be an islita out there close by with even better and bigger waves. But with the price of fuel, costly to get out there. If u get down that way and get a feel for it, post a thread, porfa.........

Robert Jorge says on Jul 16, 2008, 22:27:

Well, if riding a moto was an automatic death sentence in Colombia, I don't understand how there can be that many motos left. My theory is - if it is your time, it's your time. But, there are plenty of things you can do to GREATLY decrease your risk. Like, don't ride 50 mph through a neighborhood going through stoplights - red OR green. Even more than in the States - ride defensively and always assume the other person doesn't know your there. Expect the unexpected. Then, chances are you'll be OK. Another thing is to buy and use a US market helmet. Don't buy the crap they sell in Colombia. The average Colombian helmet is about equal to a fake baseball helmet you buy at the Red's game. Wrapping tin foil around your head would be almost as protective in an accident.

Robert Jorge says on Jul 16, 2008, 23:10:

But if you make her celosa - she will love you even more. (according to past comments) I heard the ultimate way to really get her to like you is to sleep with her sister, cousin, or best friend - and then make sure she knows about it. It is sick, I know, but many people say that is what is necessary.

Hmm.. Watch out they don't pull a "Lorena Bobbit" on you... You know she was born in Ecuador and that's right next door to Colombia!

Sounds like it is best to keep all knives under lock and key!

Also Pereira is where the book "Sin Tetas No Hay Paraiso" is based.

Hey, what's the air quality like? Medellin sounds pretty bad, very smoggy much of the time :( and some pictures I have seen have not made me very excited about visiting even though the climate is a lot cooler and looks nicer than both Cali and Bogota (Bogota being too cold)

papiChulo says on Jul 17, 2008, 01:52:

el vato... pereira is bit warmer than and rains more. I like a little higher up like santa rosa de cabal. cooler climate slow pace and near the most amazing scenery, thermal hots springs and only 30min from pereira.

yeah, lp...i've written about it countless times. you can call the mayors office in porvenir or rio negro and get actual dates.

you'll never forget it.

i don't know if you've ever been to sante fe n.m. during christmas. they put the candles in the paper bags all over town. in comparison to por venir, sante fe new mexico is like a childs birthday cake. it is absolutely spactacular. really world class.

and if you know anything about por venir, you wonder. this, here?

enjoy. tell a friend.

Douglas,

I am planning on an extended visit around Christmas of next year ( six week to the rest of my life). I will sure plan on it. I have only been to Rio Negro one time to some theme park to watch some folk dancing.

We were supposed to go to El Penol but the taxi driver said it was too dangerous and suggested Rio Negro instead. It was a very nice day trip.

dwmte7 says on Jul 18, 2008, 07:19:

i don't like the penol area much myself...for a number of reasons. as for the lake, it is a showcase of govt corruption and the egotism of the rich.

por venir is the edge of rio negro on the back way to the airport. it's a kinda nothing place, but come christmas, it's lit up like heaven, with literally millions of candles in paper bags.

carmen de viboral is kinda sorta out that way...you just don't go to the airport. a really nice place where one can grow old in peace. a nice area.
