Limpieza Social of Paramilitaries against sex tourism.
Rumors are that the Limpieza Social of Paramilitaries against prostitues (or prepagos) will go on in Medellin. A particular mention has been made about Gringo's prepagos and sex tourists.

We will probably witness interesting development in the near future.

No way. a limpieza social on prepagos?

I sense a new Colombian militia about to rise up, in defense of prepagos.

I thought paracos were the highest profile user of prepagos, anyway? Do they just want to corner the market? I imagine the gringos would be fairly easy to muscle out, to say the least.

There have been strange deaths of young women in Medellin during the last month.
Now a gringo shoot down, whether in Parque Lleras or in a barrio up on the hill, would be an effective example for all.

robi666 what is your motive in posting this CRAP???

My wife worked on and off for two years in the very BIRTHPLACE of the AUC and there was a good two putaderos out of four buildings on every street corner, and nobody said or did a thing against it.

Do you have any proof?

As I wrote, rumors, Rubito, nothing more... do I need proof to post? Take it or leave it, I don't care.

Be wary, this "modus operandi" of "limpieza social" is not strange at all, putas have been targeted before, although it is strange the open reference to gringos.
RAAAY says on Saturday March 15th, 2008 12:32:
Interestingly........I have heard the exact same thing..............The manner in which I heard it was during my romp up to M.T 's barrio n the hill.

My friend made some calls to two people he knows in that neighbourhood seeking to confirm presence of Aguilla Negros there.

He was told that a sort of public meeting was held in the soccer pitch in the barrio. People were informed that there was going to be no more toleration of Gays, junkies, petty crime etc etc and that very soon something was to going to be done about the prepagos and particularry the Gringos par-taking of them.

There have been stories of prepagos being killed in the last two months.......in one week there were six killed.

Rubito............I trust my source on this...........Take it whatever way you want...........

I was actually surprised how open some young gay men walked about the barrios, thought it was good to see that they didn't have to hide from fear of being targeted.

It didn't seem to me that anyone really cared about these young men hanging out.

They are from barrio, so what's the big deal? Or are they reffering to male prostitutes working the streets?

Is Colombia homophobic?
Medellin Traveler says on Saturday March 15th, 2008 14:07:
Here's an article in El Munco... which is in addition to another one that was posted the other day as well.

It seems, from the recent press, that they are becoming more open about their activites.

How can they get away with such actions? Are not the police responsible for policing the streets?

I understand the motivations for "la limpieza social" but who are they to take matters into their own hands and decide who lives and who doesn't?
-------------------------------------

If and when we seen something about this besides rumors it will be protection rackets and gangs as the reason. Paramilitaries,, no, gangs yes. My question might be: Will Medellin figure out the paras weren't all that bad.

AND........... your response was very sophmoric, which included a fabricated story, timeline, and altered pictures to go along with your fantasy, something I would have expected from Medo..... not big bad RAAAY, it was entertaining to say the least.

RAAAY says, "Rubito............I trust my source on this...........Take it whatever way you want..........."

How naive of you, not only to listen to them, but to actually believe they are telling you, a gringo, the truth.....

That is basically what you stated in your reply to my initial post when I commented that three of my contacts in the barrio confirmed what I had heard about the curfew.

You are soooooooooooooooooooo naive...........................

At the time of my initial post, I had just gotten off the phone, after talking to my contacts in the barrio.... they said................ (en espanol, of course)

If it did not translate to your satisfaction, that's your problem, not mine..... no need to challenge anyone to a duel, or fabricate silly foolish little fantasies about going up into the barrio at 6:00pm and taking photos from the back seat of a car while hiding underneath a sack of La chiquita bananas...................... Ray and MT, I think that you should stop it, kiss each other like at the party and forget... :)

Ray was really up there, in his first post he stretched the time, but afterwards he corrected it. My joke was built up on that wrong time.
On the other side, I do not think M_T really wanted to say that the curfew was happening everywhere. He let his hand slide on that.

Ray did not find anything strange up there, but he was not in the right barrio to find something, probably, nor there were big chances that he could really see something.

Ray is a curious guy, and I don't think that he really believed in those facts at the very first moment.
But, after a couple of day, his man in Medellin, came back with a story that he reported in this thread.

In those days, Spimi and Roci reported a couple of stories by their own, enforcing the idea of a spike in the activities of "limpieza social". The fact that they were talking about barrios that are not up on the hill is to be noted.
I met Spimi and he personally told me about a new interesting story.

Again, there is nothing strange about it. Voices, meetings and pamphlets are recurrent facts in Colombia, almost anywhere. Medellin, Barranquilla, Santa Marta, etc.
Not in Bogota, where they are afraid of Rubito.

The curious part is that I was reported by two different sources about the prepagos and gringo thing, and Ray was reported about the same by his guy. And that is what this thread is all about.
Medellin Traveler says on Sunday March 16th, 2008 8:29:

Best thing for outsiders? Don't patronize the putaderos. It seems that some Colombians don't like foreigners' use of putas, so........don't contribute to the problem. Beyond that, let the Colombian police deal with it. That is there job.

I have lived in Colombia the last 8 1/2 years , and know if someone screws over people , that person is dealt with by the people he screws over.

Look what happened to the marriage agency guy in Cali , Colombia last year.

the word on the street is that the madman was talkin smack about pepea. pepea confronted the madman and tried to professionally address the issue. the madman was high on guaro and started calling pepea's fine ass novia a prepago. pepea did a judo legwhip and the madman went down hard. when the madman was getting up, pepea lit into him again with a knee to the sternum and before the madman could hit the ground, pepea cold cocked him one more time between the eyes. the madman didn't move a bit. 5 minutes later, the madman was hauled off by ambulance from parque lleras.

i tried to snap some fotos, but the blows were coming lightening fast....
although i live in a box, i don't think like it.......

Dodger Dogs......

That guy was running a casino too. Looks to me like he probably owed money to the wrong people.

Which reminds me....I always give a little chuckle when I hear stories here from people who want to "retire" in Latin America and then, as they put it, run a little business. I know a Canadian guy who went to Panama with his Canadian wife and kids with exactly that idea. This was a guy who had always carried a lunch box to work for a wage job (nothing derogatory intended by that), and he couldn't even speak Spanish.

So....leave a country whose language you speak, but where you have never experienced the rigors of running your own business, and then expect to go to a country whose language and/or customs you don't know and expect to run a business???

Hmmmmm..................Something wrong with that picture.

Moral of the story........

Retirement there may be OK, but stay below the radar screen.
