divorce Hello,
thanks in advance for any advice you can give. I have been separted from my wife for 2 years and now finally we are getting a divorce - we live in miami, fl. I have a girlfriend in colombian and will get married to her soon after this. the problem is, if my wife and her lawyer really try to stick it to me financially and i just leave the country (usa) what would be my status as far as colombia goes, i know, sort of, what status would be for usa. Heres the problem, i am currently making about 95k per year and my wife would probaly get a good deal of that as alimony. if i left the usa and went to colombia and started my own business with my future colombian wife, and would not be able to continue to make my alimony checks to my ex-wife due to the fact i'll be making a lot less money, and the florida courts issued a order for me to pay - or else??? - what, if anything, would the government of colombia do, and would that affect my legal status in the country?

your case you could initate a process ( in Colombia) to reduce the alimony fee. However it can be long and complicateed because it involves to legal systems.

As far as law is today, if you dont get divorce your marriage here in Colombia will be annulable and you would be declared guilty. This means you would pay a compensation to your colombian girl.

After you get the divorce in USA, contact me and i will tell you what to do:
