Law and Order(10/25) colombian cartel

So did anyone else see Law and Order last night, it was all about a cartel trafficing drugs into the united states and then something went wrong and they killed someone, well did anyone else watch it?

CSI had an episode around "narcocorridos" (mexican folk songs about drug-related misadventures). Mi colombiana y yo were watching it and I asked her if they had them in Colombia. She gave me her "silly gringo" look and said they were a mexican thing.

So the mexican narcotraficantes aren't completely untouched by Hollywood.

Not so silly C4C: Your wife may not be aware of it, but in many rural areas of Colombia, the "corridos ilegales" (and Mexican-inspired music in general) are very popular. These are songs not only about the feats of druglords, but also of guerrilleros and other characters of that type.

That could be... I don't think she's the type to be current on that part of the culture (at least I hope she's not the type!).

i don't remember the name.... of the group, but about 5-7 years back, there was an article in el colombiano about 'the other cartagena' where in was mentioned this particular group's cd called 'corridos prohibidos' all about a pueblo--i believe somewhere around amazonas named cartagena. all the songs are about the puebleros who grow, process and forward the coca.

the cd is available anywhere in colombia.

Why do you say that, Crazy4Cali? My wife considers herself a most respectable woman but she was quite familiar with Mafiosos and their chicas and parties. In fact I would think most Colombians know of that part of life and the people involved in it. There was one narco-king who used to eat at her mother's restaurant in the Monteria airport. He would come in with all his bodyguards and eat while chatting up my wife who used to work there helping out her mother. He was interested in her but she was not interested in him.

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

True Just living in Cali for the past 30 years has made her more personally aware of criminal activity than they could show on ten seasons of Law & Order.

Like Dorothy said to Toto..."I don't think we're in Kansas anymore."
