Latin television

Is there a latin television Network that caters to all latin countries? I know Telemundo has mostly shows from Mexico. So does Univision from what I hear. But it if you live in Venezuela,Colombia,Costa Rica and other latin countries can you see the same shows? Or does each country have a diffrent network????

They each have their own neto They each have their own networks but they pick up a lot of the same shows. My wife can watch the same execrable telenovelas here as she used to watch in Colombia. Of course, I should talk, I'm glued to the set Sundays at 9 pm for the lovely Eva Longoria and Desperate Housewives.

A bit of both There are regional networks for specific cities, national networks for the whole country and Latin networks for the whole of the countries, these latter ones you get them through cable t.v. only.

Everybody watches the same thing No matter where you are, you watch novelas from Mexico, Colombia Venezuela, and Brazil (translated). Most Colombians vastly prefer the Colombian ones and I tend to concur. My gf thinks the Venezuelan ones are super corny and the Mexican ones arent much better. There was a really good Brazilian one about witchcraft and stuff.

Spanish TV monopolized by one culture Unfortunely the Spanish Television in USA is a greatly owned by Mexico or people of their interest and maybe by other investor(s) but with a minority stock which means they have less decision power to elect what to broadcast to their audience, therefore the TV programming and news are somehow subliminally biased.
Univision, Galavision, Telemundo and others of this culture are surgically monopolized by this giant.
If you want diversity in Spanish TV and if you want different movies, novelas, programming, sports and news, you are going to have to change to Satellite TV.
Satellite TV will bring to your home different programming, news, and sports from the country of your choice, e.g., Ecuador, Chile, Spain, Argentina, Peru, Puerto Rico,Colombia and other countries.

Directv (Caracol TV) v. Dish Network (TV Colombia) Might anyone have an opinion as to which is the better provider of Colombian television news and entertainment here in the U.S. Comparison of their programming doesn't show much overlap of programming. Which programming would a Colombian expatriate in the U.S. prefer to watch?

farfallah i don't know anything about the states but if it's between caracol (directtv) and TV Colombia (dish network)...i'd personally go for Caracol TV....we have TV Colombia at home and it does no justice to colombian programmes....the only redeeming programme on TV colombia is a copa mustang match they broadcast every sunday.
TV Colombia should be renamed roloTV....they only concentrate on Bogota so I don't have much time for it....however if you have any connections with Tabogo then you might disagree with me

Free at last with Satelite TV I am hooked to Carol TV Internacional since I changed to Direct TV in February of this year.
Their local and international news are great, the entertainment news are excellent, "Sabados felices," novelas colombianas my favorites, comedy shows like "Tambien caeras", their Reality shows are very educational about Colombia, e.g. "Nómadas" and "Desafio 20.05" this one was broadcasted at the beginning of the year.
Here is a link to CarolTV: http://www.canalcaracol.com/

Here is a comment from a happy customer:

Spanish-Language Media Expand
Broadcasters, Newspapers Pursue Fast-Growing Market
Univision began as Spanish International Network in 1961, funded by Mexican television mogul Emilio Azcarraga. Now, in addition to its station group and network, the company owns Galavision, a Spanish-language cable network with 6 million subscribers, operates TeleFutura, a 16-station Spanish-language network, and owns Hispanic record labels and a popular Internet site.
The leader in the Hispanic market is Los Angeles-based Univision Communications Inc. Relative to its audience, Univision wields a clout unequaled by any of its much-larger English-language media counterparts, such as News Corp., which owns Fox broadcast and cable networks and several television stations.

From Marketing y Medios

Q: Will there always be a media directed to Hispanics? Or will there come a time when there is no differentiation, as there is no difference between Italian American or Irish American media?

A: There will always be a Hispanic media. The big difference is that we live in a day and age where mass media has made it possible for them to stay connected to their roots. That alone is creating a completely different dynamic than what we might have had a hundred years ago. Fragmentation will continue to occur, and we're going to see that same fragmentation among Hispanic media. A lot of programming we're seeing now is of Mexican influence because almost 70 percent of Hispanics [in the U.S.] are Mexican. When digital cable explodes, there's going to be an opportunity for an Argentinean or a Peruvian channel to emerge, not just Univision and Telemundo. And we may see a lot of vertical interests develop, with half of programs in Spanish, half in English.

Univision We cannot receive Univision or any Spanish speaking stations through our cable company. Strange, as there is a rather large Latin American population here. (Michigan) I'm going to call and complain on Monday!

I am looking for some information on Colombian Univision containing reunions of children and their birthmothers and birthfamilies. Does anyone know how I could get ahold of tapes or copies of these?

Gracious!

Subscribe to Satellite TV and You will get all the local USA channels, Colombian TV as well programing from all the Spanish speaking channels in Central, South America and Spain.
To get a copy of the show you are looking for, call the station and maybe they send you a copy for a fee.

Also, if you have a sat. dish, can you somehow restrict what shows your kids have access to?

DirecTV Para Todos Call 1-800-341-4388 or visit DIRECTV.com and ask them for DIRECTV PARA TODOS(Spanish Language)Channels.
I do not think you have to worry about restrictions because you'll pick the channels you want to view, anyway call them and ask them.

Univisión and Telemundo are soooo bad. They show mostly nothing but the corniest and repetetive mexican soap operas, they´re full of idiotic gossip shows, sensationalist news with crews that can barely speak spanish appropriately. It is sad that this is the image other northamericans are getting of the Latin community.
