Last minute trip to Cartagena. Please advise

I know it is a tough time to find lodging in Cartagena, but I hope to find an apartment or something for two weeks. It is ok if it is close to Cartagena and I do know a family there that I will be visiting...any thoughts are appreciated. I am flying out Jan 1 and will return to the U.S on the 15th of Jan. Thanks in advance.

You might have better luck in Barranquilla. It's only about an hour and a half away.

Thanks for the quick response. Bartolo, I have not called Javier yet...but I will today. tomtom, good idea. I am going to visit a girl I have meet on foreignwomen.com and she is from Cartagena, but has worked in Barranquilla as a vet for the Zoo. Her grande family lives in Cartagena. Because I have never met her in person...I am leaving all options open. I may venture to Baran or Santa Marta....she was there with family yesterday...to get away from Cartagena. She has suggested that we travel around the country...prob to avoid all of the tourist action...but I have to meet her Colombian family...of course.
Ctg Bound, Thanks for the website...I have spent some time on it...and found that it is a very good resource...apartments start at $50 US per night...which is fine...is that what I should expect. I really don't have to be in the city...I am pretty flexible and east to please...

When I mentioned Casa Vienna...she said it was a bad area...but I have heard that Hans is good with help if he has no room.

byoung,
I am traveling to Cartagena because the girl I mentioned I had met has a large family who lives there....she was in Santa Marta yesterday...so you know they like to avoid the tourist traffic as well.....really I dont care...I have traveled enough that I simply take pleasure in hanging out with the locals...dont care so much for tourista trafffic either...anyway...thanks to all for your comments...I will check back to see your comments soon. Cheers,

That US$50 per night is in low season. Jan. 1 is in the middle of the highest season. Look at double or triple of that $50.

Have her find a place for you. And actually now that I think about it, even during the holidays and festivals there are plenty of places to stay around the city. Here is another number if you dont get through on the others.

She has found an apartment for 7 days. It will cost $125 per night. She said it was very difficult to find an apartment this morning. It looks like you were on target TomTom...
bartolo_colon, Do you think the two numbers you gave me may provide a better option? I will probably call them now just to see. I just talked to her about 10 minutes ago.

That may be too much, Bart. But you can't get much of anything for Jan. 1 for much less. Of course 6 to 8 per room in a hostel with shared bathroom will cost less.
