LASIK in Medellin....experiences?

Hello everybody! I hear Colombia is getting to be known for low cost operations and was considering getting lasik done there when i visit. However, I am concerned because the laws in colombia are much different than the states concerning malpractice, so doctors are usually not liable for any screw ups they perform. with that being said, has anybody had a good/bad experience with doing something like this in colombia? and what would you recommend? i'm sure others would like to hear about this as well. thanks, beef27

I had that surgery three years ago and it was perfect. The cost was $1.000.000 COP with tests and everything including. I had it in Clínica de Oftalmología de San Diego. My doctor was Jorge Humberto González Vanegas, he is a great doctor. His phone number is 3817133.

Update on Clínica de Oftalmología de San Diego i was there yesterday and their list price for the package is now 1,500,000 (you see... inflation). Probably you can ask for a discount.
Check their website http://www.clinicasandiego.com.co/

didn't notice the search function i'll check it out and use it from now on. on a side note, i have a few friends/family members that had the surgery and were more than pleased, so i didn't even think about side effects. i was just ready to be free from contacts and glasses for the first time in 20 years. oh well, i think i need to research this more before i make the decision. Pow wow, thanks for opening my eyes to this...pun intended. beef27

Three years ago I had to stop wearing contact lenses for 3 weeks before the exams and same thing for the surgery, to be honest, I don't know if you still have to do that.
6 co-workers of mine had the surgery and had no problems

My wife had it done a few months before she left Medellin. It will be four years now and she has not had any problems.

pow wow Beef27's comment doesn't strike me as being the least bit rude.

Your response is perplexing, to say the least.

Pow Wow....get a sense of humor damn, i was thanking you! what was rude about what i said? please explain that to me...saying pun intended is rude? how so? i was referring to "opening my eyes" in relation to having an operation to see better. get it? uh, by the way i work daily with about 80 Brits, so I know plenty about your culture and the way people are. What the hell is wrong with you anyway? Yes people in England are polite, just like your response here proves. You must be quite posh or something.

honestly, i don't think pow wow understands the meaning of "pun intended". unless he has social issues that are coming out in his posts? manINred confirms, it's not a Brit thing.

I hope I'm not doing the fellow a disservice, but I strongly suspect pow wow to be in his early teens.

I do love his posts though- their blend of artlessness and mischief is irresistible.

The pot calling the kettle black... "UP yours, beef" is not a polite comment. It would be totally incorrect to tell someone "UP yours" and then turn around and say that you are a polite person.
And, pow wow, you need to be aware of the nationalities to whom you are speaking on the board as well. If a saying is not offensive in another nationality, you should respect that as well if you intend someone to respect your nationality. It's not all about you and your nationality. It's a 2 way street, my friend..

Oh yeah, well so's your old man.

I had lasix done and after it was over I couldn't see and I started hollering, "I can't see! I can't see!". The doctor named Moe came over and smacked me in the head and said "Open your eyes!"

I am very interested in this procedure. Bf and I are very blind and I want to give him the surgery as an xmas pressie as we will be in Medellin next december. However, he refuses to be seen (let alone operated on) by someone who doesnt speak perfect English as he cant speak a word of Spanish. We have been to top dental clinics in Bogota and most dentists can only say "open mouth" "close mouth", which made my bf very uncomfortable. Any suggestions on fully bilingual ophtalmologists?
