try googling lasik surgery here as the question has been asked on PBH a lot recently. Good Luck as there is a lot of good info already here.

I agree. I have very short-sighted and I am very hesitant to get the operation despite the recommendation of others. People with really strong correction tend to have more problems related to refractive surgery.

My brother, uncle and a few other relatives have gotten their eyes done at Barraquer and none have had any problems, but I am still not convinced.

I'm waiting for more long-term studies before I decide. I'm in no hurry. Disposable contacts do the job well.

CG,

Get it done, man. I wore contacts for many years and now I'm so happy I don't have to worry about those pain in the ass lenses anymore.

I got it done here in Bucaramanga 8 months ago and couldn't be happier. I had such bad vision before that they barely let me have it done. My eye sight is now 20/20 and my eyes healed overnight to a state that they almost couldn't even tell the surgery had been done in my eyes at the followup appointment I had the day after. I had the surgery on a Thursday and Saturday I went to a formal wedding. My eyes were perfect. 2 weeks later I was swimming in San Andres. Go for it! Just make sure you chose a better doctor. The doctor I used is known internationally (he even spoke English the entire surgery). He might have been more expensve than some of the others but when it comes to my eyes, i didn't wnat to risk it. I paid 2,000,000 for the surgery and some small fees for the consulatation and eye drops.

Simon, What was your correction? Mine is -7 which is really high and that could cause problems. I really don't mind contacts for now. Where did you get it done?

Sabes que no sé. All I know is that I was really near-sighted. I mean, you could have had Natalia Paris standing right in front on me and she would look like Donatella Versace! Now my vision is 20/20. I had it done in Cali in December.

american- I wouldn't worry about whether something is natural or not. It's got little to do with its being useful/benevolent or otherwise. Fridge freezers don't grow in the wild but they're pretty handy. And malaria and herpes are as 'natural' as sunsets and flowers, but they don't do a lot for us.

had done thru Lafam. No they did not do the actual operation. had both eyes done for distance. Could have done one for distance and one done for close. Both eyes, for both close and far $3000. One for far and one for close vision, $1500. Both eyes done for far vision, $1500. (Still have to wear glasses to read a newspaper, computer, etc. Highly recommend it. I wore glasses everyday for 20 years. NO mas !!!! I can see clearly now ! chao elkfarmer
