"La Sierra" Documentary now available on DVD in US

I recall a lot of people wanting to buy copies of the documentary "La Sierra" about young people involved in the battle between guerilla gangs and paramilitary gangs for control of the Medellin barrio by the same name.

It's now available on Amazon.com at

Blockbuster has also had it for a while. I used to use Netflix, but I started to use Blockbuster because you get free instore rentals as well as the movies in your online rental list.

I just can't bring myself to support Blockbuster ever since I learned they use their clout to demand edited versions of movies with "offensive" content.

I want a video rental service, not a schoolmarm.

i wasnt aware of the censoring....interesting! Just my opinion...

For those who've seen the film... ** SPOILER **

Is it made clear whether Edison is executed by the police because he's a criminal and they neither know nor care that he's AUC? Or is he no longer of use to his superiors, so his death is either connived at or, at least, permitted by them?

just added it to my netflix queue which reminded me to look for another movie that was discussed here months ago - looked like a silly romantic comedy about a gringo marrying a colombiana (Gringo Wedding I think it was called?) and someone posted the trailer. I'm sure it was a total flop, but since it deals so precisely with my own life situation, I still want to see it. Where would I find it? In the bargain bin at Blockbuster? Anywhere else? I'm avoiding BB because I owe them too much money in late fees.

bufalo says on Apr 20, 2007, 07:06:

why would anyone want to watch that piece of shit?

from what I have HEARD the guys have trouble making more films now.

sometimes it is fun to watch a bad movie, just to laugh at how bad it is! But I think my post explained why I'm curious, since I just had a "gringo wedding." Anyway, I'm sure it is a piece of mierda, as you say, but it can't be worse than most movies made in Colombia by Colombians. Yes, that was a negative comment about Colombia. Sorry. Even my Colombian wife usually refuses to watch movies made in her own country because most of them suck so bad. We went to see one (since nothing else was showing) a few months ago and it stands out as possibly the worst movie I've seen in years. But it gave us something to laugh at, and that is worth something! (Also, when the movie gets too dull, you can always make out like high school kids in the back row.)

bufalo says on Apr 20, 2007, 09:06:

Ahhhh the newliweds making out in the back!!!!

Reason I think it is a piece of shit is because of the bad message it gives. Most of the colombians who liked that movie are low estratas that are future prospects to live that type of life. There's no positive message there at all, just glamorizing. At my wife's birthday party her idiotic relatives had that movie playing in the next room. The room was full of kids and three parents, TWO of them grade-school teachers. My wife tried to send the kids out of the room and noone budged, not to mention the bad looks she got from the parents. So guess who the bad-guy was?
What a wonderful message to little kids (and people wonder why I'm having second thoughts as to having our daughter grow up here). I've seen lots of examples of this. Same with Sin Tetas no hay Paraiso... suuuuuuure it was a message not to go into that world - I think that's why all the strata 1 &2 teenage girls got out of it......

Oh, I watch sucky movies all the time so I know what not to do when I make mine (I wanted to post a link but can't find the page on here, always happens!)
