It's been a long time, but I lived there for a summer in '76. My father's family lived there. It was very residential. I couldn't tell you what "estrato" it is today. It's in the northeast part of Cali. The biggest tip I might give you is that since it is right next to an air base (hence, the name), the airplane take-offs and landings are frequent and can be annoying.

I'll be vacationing in Cali the first 2 weeks in July, so will give a better description then. I'll be staying in Las Ceibas, not too far from La Base.

La Base is a safe neighborhood but it doesn't look all that nice. I would live there but it won't kill you to spend a couple of days there.

not is safe for you... gringo

She wouldn't go there with me ... she is over-protective, but better safe than sorry

La base A girl friend of mine used to live in la base. I never stayed in the barrio but I would pass by her house at all hours of the day and night and never saw anything to be alarmed about. It is a normal, safe strata 3 barrio unless your name is GIB. hehehe !!

over-protective Colombianas This reminds me of the Bello thread. The perception is different. On the other hand I doubt a barrio can be treated fully equal, probably some streets/neighborhoods are safer than others. I would suppose a real address would make it easier to pinpoint the safety. An area around a certain intersection might be known for violence, and 5 blocks away it is peaceful. Just like in Hollywood, stay on Sunset Blvd up to a certain intersection and you are more or less safe, East of that you need survival skills.

Thanks for all ur comments I appreciate your comments but I'm not sure what street I'll be staying on. ONce I get it I'll let you guys know besides I'm not a grinigo and would consider myself a mulatto born in the USA to immigrant parents who seem to can't keep those colombians away from me. Besides, my sister in law is colombian and she's been in our family since I was 12 thus I practically grew up around colombians all my life.

La base is not that bad. I think it is strato 3, but is decent.
