at Markanthony, your ignorance is clearly unparalleled. Art is presented in many forms. Just because you don't appreciate a particular form of art, doesn't mean that Kanye is any less talented as an "artist" in the art form he practices.

Damn do I gotta agree with Mark Anthony. I think Kanye sucks donkey, and is a great example of what is wrong with the music industry today. We get told by the record companies who the next superstar is, and we're supposed to just fall in line and worship these talentless a-holes.

I don't know what you guys like dancing to at clubs then, because Kanye is up there. Even though I dance to just about anything. I think that's what all that 'noise' is about, having a good time and letting it take over your body. 'Cutlure' is obviously diverse.

0 funny, 0 helpful.

Saltador says on Mar 31, 2008, 04:18:

I would guess that what you are dancing to in the clubs are "remixes" of Kanye, i.e. the work of producers, etc that has nothing to do with Kanye or his "talent". They could do that with anybody. If you've ever seen him live, you'd understand that the emperor has no clothes.

rhydewithdis says on Mar 31, 2008, 06:48:

Kanye wasn't in Medellin. That page is his personal blog, and he will post random things he finds interesting that come his way. I'm guessing someone sent him those pictures and he wanted to share with his readers. That's a big up to Medellin.

On another note, Method Man, from the Wu Tang Clan fame, performed in Medellin about five or six months back. I personally am not a fan of his.

at Markanthony, can you even name three Kanye West songs? Broaden your horizons a bit. I have a strong suspicion you are a bigot and I already know you are clearly ignorant just by reading your baseless arguments trying to trivialize something you know nothing about while there are millions all over the wold that do enjoy hip-hop music as a musical art form in the same way they enjoy Alternative, Bacahata, Trance, Metal, etc.

A good buddy of mine who works as a camera man for many high end productions including music videos (U2, Jay Z, Norah Jones, Nas, etc. are just a small sample of videos I have personally been invited to watch him film), commercials, short movies, etc. recently mentioned that a mainstream music video director that he works with and whose mother is Colombian has been looking to film a music video in Medellin or Bogota. Yes it will be for a hip-hop video artist (MarcAnthony probably just slit his wrists, lol). I'll be keeping my fingers crossed in the hopes that the storyboard they put together for the music video sees the light of day.

ColombianoGringo says on Mar 31, 2008, 09:16:

He should be shot for talking all over the Police's live performance of "Message in a Bottle" at the Live Earth concert.Come to think of it, Stink should be shot as well for letting him onstage. Shouting "yeah" a bunch of times over a classic song doesn't qualify as art. He wasn't even in sync with the song. He ruined the performance with his off beat hollering. Every song I've heard of his sounded like crap to me. Of course, I generally despise most rap "music". It was also pretty funny to see him start crying and trying to play the race card when he didn't win an MTV award.

Still, that Orquideorama place looks very cool. I'll have to check that out next time.

He is actually a client of ours. Our company does all his tour and CD marketing. I remember the first time I saw one of this douchebag's commercials in our production system. I was doing some testing of some new code in the system and happened upon his record. I thought the name was misspelled and that it was supposed to say "Kayne". Out of curiosity, I clicked on the commercial preview and immediately disliked his "music". It wasn't until much later that I started to see him on TV and really learned to dislike him. We'll still take his money though.

rhydewithdis says on Mar 31, 2008, 13:59:

Honestly, I fully understand all of this negativity towards Kanye as a person. He presents himself as arrogant, whiny and derisive. If you don't like hip-hop music, then why even both commenting on the music and saying his music sucks if you have no idea about the music in the first place? That makes no sense to me.

The same way I couldn't tell if one death metal band is better than another, most of you here complaining about Kanye could never explain to me the nuances between him, Lupe Fiasco, TIP or Nas. My main point here is that some people here should refrain from their bigoted comments.

Another thing - he is also one of the better hip-hop artists that have bridged the divide with Alternative artists including working with Adam Levine and Chris Martin on singles that were very well received.

At the end of the day you cannot take away any of this:
*His first three albums have received numerous awards (including nine Grammys)
*He has produced hit singles for major hip hop/R&B artists, including Jay-Z, Talib Kweli, Cam'ron, Paul Wall, Common, Mobb Deep, Jermaine Dupri, Scarface, The Game, Alicia Keys, Janet Jackson and John Legend among others.

That's my semi-off-topic rant.

Thanks!

Markanthony, Colombiangringo, Simon all sound like my parents when I was younger. I too am 41 and my favorite groups are from 70s and 80s but I listen to everything. Saying it is the it is a dumning of American Culture is silly. It is music and a freedom of expression. I like it all ex. techno. Music is music and because someone doesn't like it means nothing. Kayne has sold a lot of Cds so some people like it (myself included although only a few songs).

Very controversial lyrics:

She take my money well I'm in need
Yeah she's a trifflin' friend indeed
Oh she's a gold digger way over town
That digs on me

[Chorus:]
(She give me money)
Now I ain't sayin' she a gold digger (when I'm in need)
But she ain't messin' wit' no broke niggers
(She give me money)
Now I ain't sayin' she a gold digger (when I'm in need)
But she ain't messin' wit' no broke niggers
Get down girl go ahead get down (I gotta leave)
Get down girl go ahead get down (I gotta leave)
Get down girl go ahead get down (I gotta leave)
Get down girl go ahead (yeah! She kill me man)

[Verse 1:]
Cutie the bomb
Met her at a beauty salon
With a baby Louis Vuitton
Under her underarm
She said I can tell you rock
I can tell by ya charm
Far as girls you got a flock
I can tell by ya charm and ya arm
but I'm lookin' for the one
Have you seen her?
My psychic told me she'll have a ass like Serena
Trina, Jennifer Lopez, four kids
An' I gotta take all they bad assess to show-biz
Okay get ya kids but then they got their friends
I Pulled up in the Benz, they all got up in
We all went to din and then I had to pay
If you f**kin' with this girl then you betta be paid
You know why
It take too much to touch her
From what I heard she got a baby by Busta
My best friend say she use to f**k wit' Usher
I don't care what none of ya'll say I still love her

[Chorus:]
(She give me money)
Now I ain't sayin' she a gold digger (when I'm in need)
But she ain't messin' wit' no broke niggers
(She give me money)
Now I ain't sayin' she a gold digger (when I'm in need)
But she ain't messin' wit' no broke niggers
Get down girl go ahead get down (on your knees)
Get down girl go ahead get down (on your knees)
Get down girl go ahead get down (on your knees)
[Gold Digger lyrics on http://www.metrolyrics.com]

Get down girl go ahead

[Verse 2:]
18 years, 18 years
She got one of yo kids got you for 18 years
I know somebody payin' child support for one of his kids
His baby momma's car and crib is bigger than his
You will see him on TV any given Sunday
Win the Superbowl and drive off in a Hyundai
She was spose to buy ya shorty TYCO with ya money
She went to the doctor got lipo with ya money
She walkin' around lookin' like Michael with ya money
Should of got that insured, GEICO for ya moneeey
If you ain't no punk holler "we want prenup"
We want prenup! Yeah
It's something that you need to have
'Cause when she leave yo ass she gone leave with half
18 years, 18 years
And on the 18th birthday he found out it wasn't his

[Chorus:]
(She give me money)
Now I ain't sayin' she a gold digger (when I'm in need)
But she ain't messin' wit' no broke nigger
(She give me money)
Now I ain't sayin' she a gold digger (when I'm in need)
But she ain't messin' wit' no broke nigger
Get down girl go ahead get down (I gotta leave)
Get down girl go ahead get down (I gotta leave)
Get down girl go ahead get down (I gotta leave)
Get down girl go ahead

[Verse 3:]
Now I ain't sayin' you a gold digger you got needs
You dont want a dude to smoke but he can't buy weed
You go out to eat and he cant pay y'all can't leave
There's dishes in the back, he gotta roll up his sleeves
But while y'all washin' watch him
He gon' make it into a Benz out of that Datsun
He got that ambition baby, look in his eyes
This week he moppin' floors next week it's the fries
So, stick by his side
I know his dude's ballin' but yeah that's nice
And they gone keep callin' and tryin'
But you stay right girl
But when you get on he leave yo ass for a white girl

Get down girl go head get down
Get down girl go head get down
Get down girl go head get down
Get down girl go head

Yup! Better it be given away to the next generation that will continue to innovate.

This is how it will always be. You old folks rail us against the tastes of the younger generation and we will do the same against the next generation.

Sad thing is, I know many of you have no problem having a young Colombiana grinding up against you while reggaeton or hip-hop is pumping in the background. Do you run out of the club screaming about the god awful music then? Most likely not. And even if you do, that's great for me. More hunnies for me at the club! =)
