K3 or IR1

I was under the impression that it is no longer necessary to file an I-129F once I received the receipt of my I-130...believing that K3 and the IR1 take about the same time. According to www.visajourney.com the average time of NOA1 to the interview for a K-3 is 173 days (less than 6 months). But the average time for the IR1 is 240 days with the majority of processing time after receiving NOA2. I just received approval of my I-130 (NOA2)...Am I still looking at waiting five more months until my wife is interviewed. This seems odd when I am reading that many K-1 and K-3 visas are only taking three months. I have already been waiting 4 months. Shouldn't I have filed an I-129F as well?

For a while the K-3 process was completely messed up - it was taking 9 months for an approval. They got their act together and it's taking about a month. Understand that the K-3 is just a temporary 2 year visa - she still has to either AOS in the US or go back to Colombia once the NVC is done with processing the CR-1. We were going to go back to Bogota for the CR-1 but we decided to AOS here instead. If I were you I'd be patient and wait for the CR-1 to be processed. All those K-1 and K-3 people will still have a ton of paperwork to do later and you won't have any!

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

Thanks Utopiacb I guess from what you have told me in the past that it is a long process. My wife is expecting in December, so I guess I better make plans to go visit her before and again in December.
