The USCIS website is next to useless. Their information is not kept up to date and doesn't tell you half of what you need to now.

Make sure to also go to VisaJourney.com and check out the guides and the excellent forum. That is the best place for visa info on the web.

Yes, go to Visa Journey for all the info you may need. They have all kinds of guides including for AOS which you will need once your fiancée gets here. We also have a Colombian Club thread where you will find all kinds of info such as medical, lab, vaccines, DAS documents, etc.

Actually, I found several instances of incorrect information and even out of date forms on the USCIS and embassy sites. On top of that, both the USCIS call centers and the embassy in Bogota are disorganized jokes whose staff and publications often misinform people about the process.

I'm sure we're all glad that you didn't need it, but VJ is a probably the best resource on the web.

I just got through with this mess and the whole system really went haywire last year when they raised the fees. The backlogs were terrible. A lot of people weren't even getting receipts or notices from USCIS. When you call them for information, you get different nonsense every time you call. To boot, the Bogota embassy changed some forms and procedures and didn't update things correctly so there was conflicting info in different instruction packets that we got from them.

Additionally, there are lots of tricks and shortcuts that are documented on VJ that cut at least a month off our time to interview. I'm sure we could have navigated the mess without the VisaJourney community, but it was certainly a big help.

I'd recommend an attorney. I paid mine $750 flat to handle the whole thing. I did a lot of homework and even then it wasn't good enough, he showed me a lot more stuff that I needed.

ColombianoGringo says on Jul 15, 2008, 15:47:

That is a good price for an attorney. However, be careful in choosing an attorney as many have caused grief and delays for their clients. deathnova, If yours was good, you might consider posting his info.

Still, I don't think you need an attorney. It isn't that difficult, especially if you do your research.

The only thing you need to make sure she signs when you're down there is at least two copies of all four pages of the G-325A form. She will need to sign each of the four pages. Send me a PM and I'll email you a copy of the G-325A that you can fill in and save with Acrobat reader. I don't know if it has been fixed, but the copy on the USCIS site could be filled in, but not saved with Acrobat Reader. I modified one in Acrobat Pro so it could be saved.

The G 325 is the Bio form correct ??? the extra copies are for backup in case im assuming...... Thanks for the advice

ColombianoGringo says on Jul 15, 2008, 16:31:

Yes, the second copy would be for backup. However, that form has four form pages that are identical except for a code in the bottom left corner. Some people have made the mistake of simply copying the first page four times. This will not work as he code on each page designates it for a different part of the process.

The PDF I mentioned will copy what you fill on the first page on to the other three. Simply print out the whole thing and have her sign each page. You will need to do the same for yours.

Good info above. Save yourself wasted money - and DO NOT hire an attorney. I hired one because it made me feel good. After the process was over, I realized that I taught HIM what to do - that HE had added on roughly 4 months to the interview date, and he did nothing I could not have done myself. I talked to him perhaps a total of 15 minutes. And his secretary did all the work and talked to me about a total of 1 hour. But, I felt better initially, because the process seemed intimidating. Just download the government forms, and read visajourney.com. You will be much better off.
