K-1 Approved! Much Thanks to PBH . . .

First of all I want to thank UTC, Silviat, Tinto, Gator, Hollywood, etc. and everybody else whose input has become so useful not only to me but to any and everybody else going through the visa process . . . 7/26: We got to the embassy around 5:45am and were fourth in line - we got out at 11:45am with visa approved - we did see at least one couple that got denied and two other couples who were frantically taking turns on the phone with the interviewer. Not knowing what to expect, we were pretty worried. But when they called her up, I just stood behind her waiting to be called. The interviewer casually spoke to her and asked her if I was there, then he instructed her to ask me for my passport which he photocopied and put into the folder. He then gave her the receipt to pay for DOMESA and voila! - visa approved. The whole thing took about 5 minutes. He didn't ask me a thing. I just stood there. All of the other applicants whose boyfriends were there had to speak to the interviewing officer for at least a good 20 minutes. I didn't. That's why I give a lot of credit to the PBH family for your advice and instruction. To paraphrase Sonny from a previous thread, if you're smart you filter out the bad stuff from PBH and are left with a wealth of information. Thanks again guys for your help and support -

Congratulation Relax now and have fun! Bogota is good for getting through this process - they seem to go by the book and not many denials happen here. Do me a favor and drink an Aguila for me!

And so now... The work really starts. EAD, drivers licenses, etc...it is easier with you love at your side though.

Ours was approved as well Hola Rona...

Congrats on the visa....My fiancee had her interview on 7/26 as well. S(She was #2 in line) arrived about 5am. I was not there for the interview but all went well. I travel to Cartagena on 8/11 and we return to California on 8/15. We have reservation to be married in Hawaii on 9/26. YIPEEEEEEEEEE.

I have learned a lot from this site. It is a valuable tool for those undertaking this type of journey.

Now that we have a visa and a marriage date...what do we need to do after we are married? I am sure there are forms to be submitted...does Homeland Security or the State Dept. inform us as to which forms are necessary or do we have to search and hope we file the right ones?

Any help is appreciated

Thanks

Mike

Mike I think you would end up getting instructions as part of the Fiancee process. If not, it's a matter of filing for adjustment of status (I-485). As far as anything else, I'm not sure off hand. Enjoy Hawaii, I lived there for a few years and enjoyed the island life (except that it's too darn expensive most of the time).

God Bless America!

Go to their web site: www.uscis.gov and look for the I-485. It will have instructions as to what a K-1 needs to file as part of an I-485 package.

Congratulations and don't forget to get the SSN card; EAD (if she wants to work) and AP (if she needs to travel prior to getting the AOS.) I know ... lots of acronyms but look them up at Visa Journey and they have sample forms and details. Good luck

yup - I always refer to this site before hitting . . . . . . the USCIS site . . . the wheels are turning because she's a teacher and we're trying to see what's available to her when she gets here . . . she wants to work but I want her to polish her English before, but I'm looking into it anyway in case something pops up

Thanks everyone The info was a great help. I was at a loss as to what we have to do next. I did not want to rely on the government to inform me on what was needed after the wedding.

Thanks to evryone on PBH... knowing I was not alone in this process and learning of the experiences of others helped a great deal. Good luck to all of you
