wtf, JUANES??????JUANES????

So there I was sitting on my ass, playing with my balls and watching spic programming (very rare on my part) cus I mostly watch CNN and The Comedy Channel.
I think it was Tele fokin mundo or the other one, not sure which.
Anyways, this Miami based program was your typical family drama BS, my sister slept with my husband type of chit but today was about different latin countries and how they claim to be better than the other.
They had representatives from Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Argentina, Venezuela, Guatemala, Brazil and maybe a couple more.
After insulting each other with the usual chit, Puerto Ricans are all lazy welfare cheats, argentines hablan tanta mierda como los cubanos, colombians are all drug dealers, and Guatemala, well, the names says it all, etc.
At one point they asked each panel member to name one person that best represents their country, most talented, loved, admired and respected etc.
The Mexican guy chose Cantiflas, Cuban, Celia Cruz, Venezuelan with Oscar de Leon and the argentionos con su fokin Maradona and so on.
Then they got to the goofy cachaco Colombian modefoque with heavy paisa accent, he says JUANES pues,
WHAT???????
Of course that answer brought me to my feet in disgust, JUANES????????????????? Mira cachaco triple hijueputa , cara monda, JUANEESSSSS?????.
This chit not only shocked me, but the entire audience including the super fine host which expected to hear Shakira.
CHITTT, off the top of my head I could name three modefoques ahead of Juanes and there could be many more
Gabo.
Shakira
Carlos Vives
And then maybe Juanes.
This is the typical chit costenos have to deal with, just cus we have no voice in USA, why?
Cus MOST costenos are home, in Colombia where they belong.
We have to deal with these modefoques representing la patria, so proud of fokin Colombia Yet nearly all live in Queens NJ and Mimi and the rest are waiting to get the fok outta there.

Modefoque,

Just what the fok is your problem with anyone who is not from 'la Costa'? What, do you think Colombia is some fokin island to be constantly bitching and complaining about how it should just be 'all costa'?

And I think Juanes is a wonderful choice, he is a truly successful, decent and patriotic Colombian superstar! You don't see him dating Argentines and living in the Bahamas only to drop by Colombia just when he needs to promote a new album!

I, of course, would have chosen Uribe, he is the ULTIMATE COLOMBIAN!!

johnny2008 says on Aug 31, 2008, 11:29:

Simon, I am not sure Ingrid Betancourt is somebody that you want representing your country, especially on this side of the atlantic.

So far as we see it, self indulgent woman goes electioneering in a place where she was warned no to go to. Same women gets kidnapped after being warned that she would get kidnapped. (Admiro las guerillas que cumplen su palabra)

Then in what is seemingly an act of political gesturing, she is rescued. Hooray Sarkozy and Uribe.

This woman loves Colombia so much that the first thing she did when she was released was... Err... board a plane and head straight for France for a cosy dinner with Mr and Mrs Sarkozy, the fragrant Carla Bruni.

Has she been back to Colombia since? I am guessing not because she keeps cropping up on the BBC news, in fact if she shows up once more I am throwing my TV out of the window.

Has she not also stated that she is thinking of running for presidency again? I don't suppose she is going to do that from France, so you may well get her back at some point in the future. But correct me if I am wrong, but did she not poll less than 1% of the vote last time? Seems she has delusions of popularity or maybe her "tragic plight" has bolstered that.

Not being an expert on Colombian politics so I speak very much as an outsider, but dare I say, in a country where people hunt for their lunch in a rubbish bin behind the avianca building, there are probably worthier causes to throw cash at than rescuing someone that wilfully and knowingly got themselves into trouble whilst promoting themself? Think on that.

The good thing about living in the most diverse city in the planet, I get to enjoy modefoques from every corner of the planet.
Let me tell you something, when it comes to choosing best country with most beautiful fun people etc. Brazil wins hands down.

Well the thing about Juanes and what sets him apart from your average latin rock is that he's successfully fused different Colombian rhythms with standard pop/rock sounds. That's why "La Camisa Negra", "Fíjate Bien" and "La Paga" did so well. He also did a version of Joe Arroyo's "La Noche" which I thought was wonderful.

And yes, Carlos Vives is amazing and I love him for what he's done but is he known worldwide as much as Juanes. I don't see that happening.

Gabriel García Márquez is also a great Colombian ambassador but now days people seem to read less and less which is really sad.

Shakira is also known worldwide but she's a voltearepas anyway, so she doesn't count. >D

Monpirri says on Sep 3, 2008, 16:32:

Mononoke, voltiarepas is someone who is constanly praising one country over Colombia.
For example, instead of promoting Colombian products he or she would rather advertise or use products from the other country. i.e a voltiarepas would say, I rather have a tortilla than an arepa and so on. In his or her opinion Colombia is always second or last!
A voltiarepas would not spend any time looking for information to educate his fellow cyber friends because he or she would rather post info that is going to team her or him with his or her friends.

A voltiarepa would say something like the music X country in Spanish is better than Colombian music.
In other words, a voltiarepas would sale everything that does not belong to him or her for peanuts or he or she would do it for a couple of beers or whatever.
