So it seems that Juanes' creativity for new videos completely ran dry since he started talking about how to deal with the FARC. Great song, but come on, is it too much to ask if it had some sort of story line besides a whole bunch of dancers jumping around in a sound stage with lights behind him?

Oh well, here it is. Embedding was disabled by Universal Music Group.

This song is OK. Not bad, but not great. I haven't really liked much of his work after "Un Dia Normal". His voice seems to get more and more nasal as time goes by. It almost sounds like a foreigner singing in Spanish. At least it isn't a droning ballad.

I much prefer Carlos Vives, Fonseca and Cabas.

NCMike says on May 28, 2008, 18:08:

Personally I LOVE that song, but have to agree the video isn't anything special. That song is actually my favorite on the CD. The strange thing about it, is that I normally don't care for the accordian (even hate it sometimes) but on that song it really works. And it wasn't in the video. Just Juanes, the drummer, and a guitar player.

There is something about the minor key yet upbeat nature of the song that I love. I can't exactly put my finger on what it is. Maybe for me, being a WASP, some of the folk styles of Colombia and South America are very refreshing to me, and Juanes manges to mix those with rock to make a very original sound.

For me, I guess Juanes is still new. When I first started studying Spanish I remmeber somone dl'd for me Fotografia, and others. I can understand why maybe some of you longterm fans may not be as impressed as I am. My friends laugh at me when they see what is in my mp3 because a lot the songs are hits from the 70s or 80s in Spanish, music of their mothers or abues. For me, the oldies are easier to understand, I guess, and yet they are new songs to me.

Still I'm impressed how many of my young friends seem to know all the words to all songs, regardless of how old a song is. That's something I love about Hispanic culture. Everyone sings!!! And of course, everyone dances.

romy says on May 29, 2008, 09:10:

It had a very good start with the Cumbia melody, but then the song drags on and becomes very boring as the focus becomes on very weak lyrics and mediocre singing, not expecting it to be a hit at clubs. It just doesn't do anything to your body. And I actually liked a lot of 'la vida es un ratico', so I'm dissapointed with Juanes for making this a single.

Simon continues to make me laugh.

ColombianoGringo says on May 29, 2008, 09:13:

I don't think this is a particularly good blend of traditional and rock music. Others have done it better. For that matter, Juanes has done it better.

romy, Since you like techno, have you heard the Paul Oakenfold remix of "Como Tu" by Carlos Vives? It can be found on his "Creamfields" album. Honestly, I think it could have been a lot better, but here it is...

In this case, I much prefer the original.

Now that is how you mix electric guitar and accordion! Take some notes Juanes.

ColombianoGringo says on May 29, 2008, 09:36:

Ha Ha. This is funny, but I was listening to "Como Tu" on yahoo music and the next song that came on was "Gotas de Agua Dulce" by Juanes. I have to admit that it is actually pretty good. It's the kind of song that Juanes is good at.

romy says on May 29, 2008, 09:48:

CG- I hadn't heard it... too much lounge rhythms for most of the song and then the actual remix of Carlitos I like (perhaps just nostalgic emotions) but you're right it could be better.
Clearly the original is a much better piece of music.

Gotas de agua dulce is one of many of my Juanes faves.

Now for those who like Fonseca, this is his new single "Enrédame". I love this song, ever since I saw it on MTV3 a few weeks ago but what's the deal with all these singers making videos just standing in an empty room singing? It's not entertaining at all. Pssssssssssss!

Very cool song by Fonseca

Does anybody have a good radio show to keep up with the latest in latin (or even just Colombian) music? Something in the lines of A State of Trance (Armin Van Buuren) or Pete Tong's weekly show; both of which I follow religiously.

I listen to it on di.fm the trance channel... I don't pay for premium (the free streams have pretty good quality anyways) but they put the premium stream for free on demand so it works better for me anyways, the show is live at 2pm ET thursdays (so pretty soon here). What I do is log onto the forum after the show and there they'll have the tracklist, since Armin doesn't specify all the songs, also on the forum I'm able to pick out the best liked songs if I don't have time to listen to the whole show.

I've been listening to Fonseca's new album this afternoon. Overall, I like it. There are several really good songs. The only real letdown is that he has interspersed English phrases in a few of the songs. I find that extremely CORNY. For example,

"Yo te sigo si me dejas todo vale maybe its better to let go"

What the hell kind of "pocho" nonsense is that? Still, the album is quite good. It's certainly worth a listen if you like Fonseca's music.

Tipico Colombiano acomplejado. Me recuerda a los centros comericales Colombianos donde la mitad de los almacenes tienen nombres en ingles.

I've been working myself through the fonseca album:
Some very good, some allright and some very bad.
I'm liking Catalina, Beautiful sunshine, and Enredame.

I actually really like the mix of Spanish and English in Beautiful Sunshine, though the Spanish bits are much better.

Just out of curiosity, which strike you as very bad?

BTW, Are you a musician? I never learned to play a musical instrument as a child. It is actually one of the few real regrets in my life. If I ever had a reasonable amount of free time, I might take some piano lessons.

Same thing could easily come out of my mouth except I'd like to take guitar lessons. Just that music is a fuel for my life, I actually have my greatest memories attached to songs that I was enjoying at the time, so I'll have memory flashbacks whenever these songs come on. I love dancing too.

IMO Arroyito is terrible... Sabre Olvidar and Gratitud are fillers. And I forgot to mention that I also like Paraiso and Confiesame 2008. The other songs are alright.
