Juan Pablo Montoya out of F1 race on first corner

The European Grand Prix was over in a matter of seconds for Juan Pablo Montoya who made an ill-advised dangerous pass attempt on the outside of turn one.

He's not making friends at McLaren, especially since his teammate is so dominant.

Hold on a minute, the rules a Hold on a minute, it was another car involved that I saw being lifted off by the crane, it was Mark webber who was involved in the crash with Montoya.

Montoya is still in it and driving like mad, he has worked up to 8th already.

I spoke to soon. I am so used to Montoya in the BMW.

Interesting older insight into JPM's life. There is mention of a foundation he and his wife were starting in Colombia, does anyone know more about it? It is nice to see JPM and Shakira staying involved in Colombia and putting some of their money back into the country.

I watched my first-ever Nascar race tonight on TV (en Phoenix) with my parents, who are big, however unlikely, fans.

Colombia, my Colombiana, or things Colombian are not much a topic of discussion with them (yet :))
So, to try to break a lil ice, I asked: "Is MONTOYA racing tonight?"
They had explained to me that tonight - Friday night - was the 'bush league' race, and tomorrow the Big Boys race. Okay,... when is Montoya racing? "oh, I think he is racing tonight, and probably tomorrow, as well." Oh; they can race in both? "Sometimes."

So finally, they ask: "What do you know about Montoya? Why are asking about Montoya?" (They know I have never watched a race on TV in my life, and couldn't care less about the matter, frankly)

"BECAUSE! HE IS FROM C.O.L.O.M.B.I.A.!!!"
'oH!'

Some headway here....... they kept me informed throughout the race, as to where he was, what his car looked like, how he has been doing, and just about way more than I wanted to know about any of these guys. lol

I should have made it real interesting, and told them that 'he was married once to my girlfriend'. lol Well, just to maybe make the night a little more lively. (...'Cause Juan Pablo didn't hit anyone tonight.)

Ciao! Gustav. Bienvenitos, Ike.

Juan Montoya y NASCAR Yeah, ol' Juan will be driving like crazy tomorrow in Phoenix. He's already like 13th in points. That's pretty darn good... I think he's got a bright future in NASCAR. I kinda root for him...except last week when he knocked Tony Stewart out...Darn him!!!

I saw that love tap between Montoya and Stewart... In my opinion it was good, clean, (and, yes, aggressive) racing... but it wasn't an intentional taking out of Stewart. JPM is not wreckless and he's getting better by the week with NASCAR.

Montoya caught on camera, faces possible fine Montoya gesture could result in Busch Series penalty: NASCAR will look into whether Juan Pablo Montoya violated any of its rules by using an obscene gesture that was telecast by a Speed in-car camera during the final Busch Series practice Friday, NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston confirmed. The Chip Ganassi Racing driver apparently was unaware the camera was being used for live television. NASCAR has fined and penalized drivers for obscene gestures caught on live television in the past. --April 21, 2007plátano

I am no fan of car races But there is a radio program on Caracol "La Luciernaga" where they give news mixed with jokes.

They interview Colombian personalities - (Imitators) and when they do interview Montoyas, he is portrait like an arrogant person on the interviews and always figthing with the media, they portrait el Juanpis as a gomelo, osea, osea, with a very high stem.

That Luciernaga program is good.

Perhaps Montoya should work a lil to help upgrade... The Colombian Image, since he is now a highly visible celebrity.
From what I have only heard, he is sort of a hot head, on the Nascar circuit. But, maybe not; I was surprised that mi padres had nothing really bad to say about him. Except that he for sure will be in there bumping someone, or in other words, always in the mix.

But, I will be there, pulling for him to continue moving on up in the Nascar Standings.

Colombia; It's no Disneyland.
It's.... THE MAD HATTER!

16th in NASCAR standings... Juan Montoya is 16th in the standings and for those of you who don't think that's very good, let me assure you he's doing quite well. He's the highest ranking rookie in the standings. The second highest is 28th and the third highest is 40th. He's doing very well in NASCAR. If you thought he was going to come in and compete in the top 10, you need to become more familiar with NASCAR. These are the best drivers in the world and you can't just drop in and be at the top of the standings. If Montoya finishes in the top 15 in November, he'll have had a great year. Personally, I think he can finish in the top 12 and make the "Chase for the Championship!" I'd like to see him do that. Next year, maybe he can hope to be in the top 10 all season long, but just not this year. There are too many good drivers and the learning curve will take him to next year..

Oh, BTW Dale Earnhardt, Jr. is in 15th place, one spot ahead of Juan Montoya. He's one of the "elite" drivers. Does that give you an idea of how tough NASCAR is and how well Montoya is doing in his first full year?

For all you Nascar freaks: Can he have run in today's race for the second tiered drivers, and then also run tomorrow? (is that Tallydegoooo??? tomorroooo?)

From my understanding, there is usually a run the day before the 'Big Race', with the guys who are not necessarily the front-runners of the sport. Si, o no?

Yes Any driver can drive in the Saturday race, or Busch series, if he qualifies his car. Generally, the Busch series is held at the same track as the Nextel Cup. Sometimes, like today and yesterday, the races are held at different tracks. Drivers have been known to drive at one track on Saturday and then fly to the other track to race there on Sunday.
And, for the record, Juan Montoya finished 31st at the restrictor plate track, Talladega. He had some help brushing the wall and went behind the wall for repairs and went 5 laps down before coming back out to finish the race. He now stands 19th in NASCAR Nextel Cup points.

Montoya's replacement in F1 is certainly the business. Three podium finishes in three starts as a rookie. If Mr. Montoya was upset about the car he should have waited a year, with his experience who knows what would have come of it.
