You have to be able to be a complete jerk to inocent people whose only fault is needing assistance. Don't resound to pleas for help via e-mail. Don't return phone messages. Forget about answereing the phone. When responding via e-mail, be as cold and non-imformative as possible.
I'm now 14 months into waiting to receivie a Social Security Card for my baby girl. I've been treated very poorly, even though I've always been as polite and proper as possible. The app even had to be submitted a second time. No appologies, we'll put this at the top of our priorities..... noting.
What's so srewed up about this, is that I know that my daughter has been issued her number as I've conducted other business with the SSA and have been advised that it exists. It's not in the re4lm of their derparment to mail out such info and can't reveal it to me via e-mail.
This is no way to treat US Citizens. Even if they choose to livge in Colombia!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gator says on Oct 10, 2007, 08:59: Since you retained your US Citizenship take a shot at asking for help from the US Senator/Congressperson from your state and district where you last lived. Write a certified letter to the SSA requesting a card be mailed to you in Colombia and copy that letter to senator/ congressperson. Point out you NEED the number, by law, to file federal tax returns "Brevior Sltare Cum Deformibus Mulieribus Est Vita!" . 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Bill Turley says on Oct 11, 2007, 09:10: I have had the opposite results in my many contacts with the US Embassy. I have had much assistance and effective results. When I started to get a pension the ACS department assisted in getting the SSA to reissue a check and get it to me. I needed assistance with the Banco de Bogota who ( as it turned out) was holding my money from SSA for more than 20 days rather than delivering it to my account. More recently SSA could ( would) not provide a document I needed so the Embassy provided a substitute which worked. In summary, over 10 years I have had many contacts with the staff of the American Citizen Service with very satisfactory results. Mr. Bill Somondoco 0 funny, 0 helpful. |
