Jack Smith says on May 2, 2005, 12:30: OPM website This was found at the OPM website under state department. I didn't bother to read the job qualifications but probably looking for some paper pusher type....I am sure one would work with the DEA....However, don't be surprised if the job isn't alreadt given to some wife, husband, or relative of a State Department official already assigned and headeed for Bogota. I DONT THINK THE STATE DEPARTMENT IS A SO CALLED EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER SINCE THEY ARE ALLOWED TO PLAY NEPOTISM IN THEIR HIRING PRACTICES!

Jack Smith says on May 2, 2005, 14:22: Jobsusa webite Actually it was the JOBSUSA website then you go to agency search and click on State Department then go down the list to find the posting for Bogota DEA. I just checked the qualifications requirements and as I mentioned I have little doubt the job is already filled by some family member of a FS officer headed down there already. This is how State Department employees double dip while they are overseas. This job says something about previous 7 years State Deparment experience already? Well, the spouse gets a second job as a reward for quiting his or her job in Washington so the FSO can go abroad on assignment. I could be wrong in my analysis but I think the State Department sees itself as an elitist little click that uses terms like "Equal Opporrtunity Employer" but in reality may not practice it? I was told once that all they have to do is post a position somewhere then they fill them as they wish anyway. I could be wrong but if you feel you qualify then send in your resume. Who knows?

Mr. Hollywood says on May 3, 2005, 07:37: Why the LOL? Why do you have a LOL about the danger pay bump for State department employees? You don't think Bogota is more dangerous than sitting in a embassy in Paris or Frankfurt? The new US embassy was shelled a couple years ago and the FARC tried to attack the old embassy with bazookas.

SiempreHero says on May 3, 2005, 10:12: LOL part 2 I agree with Hollywood. Colombia is a risky post and hence has the premium pay vs more stable countries. I guess Isreal also gets danger pay but not sure. When I was in Colombia with an large corporation, i got 15% danger and 5% hardship premium. The extra pay went to better more secure housing and

Mr. Hollywood says on May 3, 2005, 13:11: Danger Pay part 2 Out of curiousity, I asked a friend in the foreign service about danger pay. State dept. employees in Baghdad, Kabul and other places make more danger pay than Colombia. Israel is about the same. Washington D. C. you just live at your own risk.
