job offers in Bogota for English teachers

Is there any sites that i can go to for job postings in Bogota? I am looking for an English teaching job. Or is there anybody on this website hiring anybody? I am moving to Bogota early 2009 and would like to teach English. Please feel free to email me. Thank You.

is there a proven method for teaching English to Spanish speakers? Not a school. Does anyone know? Thanks

I know you mention a total immersion "situation" and I totally agree.

But that situation needs to include grammer, drills and explanations to the student in the student's native tongue.

I know people here in Medellín who have been totally immersed for years and can barely speak the language. I'm not talking about the average guy either who doesn't care. I'm talking about guys who have taken immersion classes here and are fully motivated to learn. The immersion/communicative/naturist classes are your basic dog and pony show immersion type classes with no grammar or drills. This makes it easy on lazy teachers ("Hey it's how you learned your first language") and the lazy student who get cheated and they don’t even know it. They think they are learning but they don’t really get anywhere or where they get takes a long time and is frustrating.

I have not met many native English speakers who have been fully immersed and/or taken immersion classes in Colombia who can speak anything but a bunch of small memorized 5 word sentences and throw out a few single words and phrases. None of them can have an unpredictable conversation nor do they have the basic grammar structure to utter even simple sentences correctly. Immersion or immersion classes ALONE are not really the best approach.

It is good when there is absolutely no other choice. Armando took years with total immersion http://www.sdkrashen.com/articles/what_does_it_take/all.html

Had Armando been exposed to real classroom formal training in the beginning his immersion would have increased his Hebrew exponentially. Exponentially. If you want a link to that I can look it up. Or Goolge Robert O'Neill.

There is this new wave of lazy teacher communicative or naturist strategy that really screws a student who wants to really get up to speed with a language and attain and RETAIN a high level of conversational ability without struggling for years with the immersion technique.

"This does NOT mean that I think everything has to be learned consciously, through rules and explanations. It means only that it is foolish and even DISHONEST to claim that a foreign language can be learned in anything like the same way children appear to acquire their [first language]." Robert O'Neill on second language acquisition in adults using the total immersion communicative approach alone.

And because I wholeheartedly believe in this quantitative approach (I am living proof) I could never teach a dog and pony show class to Spanish speakers wanting to really learn English because I don't know the English grammar nor how to teach it.

But I tell you one thing. Using the way I was taught as a model and having vast teaching experience I could outline a high level course for either English or Spanish that would be extremely effective.

The institutes take on teachers all year round, the best being IH which pays the salary stated above. The British Council are usually looking at xmas and especially in the summer, keep your eyes on their website for advertising around nov, dec.....and may, june.

Externado Uni, advertise nov ...for the new term in jan...and may for the new term in august.

The interational schools, (if you want to teach kids) and there are two....are usually looking in the summer, apply around may time, good luck!

Hi Bill. I appreciate your feedback. Every other "english teacher" goes by the guise of "Native English Teacher" which is slang for "I speak English therefore I am an English teacher."

I'd be interested in knowing about the software you employ. What's it called and who wrote it? Thanks.
