rickgoody, in regards to work I need someone with muscle to help with handywork fixing up an apartment (3 bedroom) located in central bogota. Need help moving furniture into apt to furnish it, painting, handy work, etc etc, are you up for that?

I will arrive in Bogota in about a week. Will you be available?, send me your phone # in Bogota, not a cell # and or email.

TQ

good luck Rick Seriously! Don't let the negativity on this site get you down. One thing I think I have learned is that if you want to work teaching english legally you need a teaching credential, not just a TEFL or CELTA. I think theree is probably some wiggle room if you can get a school to sponsor your work visa, but I am not sure. At least a degree in somethng. Also read the Visa FAQ. You can only stay 180 days a year on a tourist visa, and will most likely have to get it renewed every 30days if you stay longer than about a month. You may want to read tequendama's posts before you agree to anything. If you are an American he has some choice thoughts on how he feels about us on another post. use the google bar and type in his user name to search

You may want to ... check out the Siars Hotel, someone here posted this:
Good Hotel in Bogota | Colombia GuideIt is the Hotel Siar, in the barrio Sears... why the barrio Sears?? There is a big shopping mall nearby and they had a Sears Roebuck store there many years ...

Aparently it's pretty good, and only $125 a week, the guy that posted said this:

I don't have my map with me at this time... and I wasn't particularly concerned about security when I went there. Though the Hotel Siar is very safe, a number of women stay there on business. It is just a good secure hotel. They have security at the door 24 hours, and there is a police sub station just down the block. There is good security all over this area during the daylight hours up until about 10 pm. Taxis are readily available at the hotel or anywhere in this neighborhood. The mall is one short block from the hotel, and they have a cinema, as well as Mc Donald's and other familiar shops. My wife travels with me and is from Colombia and feels secure here, and frequents the beauty shops in the area. I am not sure about the availability of the apartments on month to month. But the owners live on site and are friendly. I am not staying in Colombia at this time. If you have other questions, just ask.

Regards,

Steve Davis

I don't have the address but you can ask, let me know what you think of it, if you check it out. I am possibly staying there.

You did research places to stay before you left didn't you? did you read about that colombian services guy named Bob? He's pretty honest and sincere, they charge more obviously.

I won't be there for another week, still working and next week packing. I probably wont be there until the 19th or 20th, might be too late for you, but thanks for the offer anyways. I have male cousins there that usually help me out, because I pay them and it's extra cash in their pocket. It's hard to find work there, really hard, I don't want to discourage you but people there like to bargain and negotiate everything, can't trust anyone in a big city as that where unmeployment is so darn high and people are looking for whatever they can grab. There's also a factor of procrastination there and everything takes a long time to get done, anything and everything!!! Be patient and enjoy the kick back, it's your vacation anyhow, why work?

take care,
TQ
