That is not quite what Carter said. His words, of course, have been parsed and skewed by all sorts of idiots since. If you look at exactly what Carter said, he is making plenty of sense.

I think Obama should appoint him "National Hemorrhoid."

Carter stated: "I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man, that he's African-American. I live in the South, and I've seen the South come a long way, and I've seen the rest of the country that share the South's attitude toward minority groups at that time, particularly African-Americans. That racism in connection still exists, and I think it's bubbled up to the surface because of a belief among many white people, not just in the South, but around the country, that African-Americans are not qualified to lead this great country. It's an abominable circumstance and grieves me and concerns me very deeply."

For all the Faults Carter had, he is still Eons ahead of GW Bush. At least Carter didn't leave us involved with 2 two Wars(one very stupid--Iraq with 4000 Dead US Troops), the Worst Terrorist attack on the US Mainland and the worst Recession since the great depression,,,I never voted for Carter btw but I do admire what he has done since he left office.

Carter is a little bit of an oxymoron. He is a good man personally but has always been an avowed liberal on the issues but hides it well behind his good ol boy personality. But,,, if anybody here is old enough to remember the years 76-80, I am, when he was pres can remember inflation at 12%. interest peaking at about 19%, economy in shambles, the ayotolla of Iran made a fool of him, and he was stupid enough to invade Iran with a handful of helicopters that ran into each other instead of the enemy. He was voted out of office in a landslide and then Reagan got the country straigtened out by cutting taxes and regulation and building up defense and making us proud to be americans once again, and the ayatolla let the hostages go because he knew Reagan would do something about it. Good ol boy Carter who must be well in his eighties now needs to get back to building houses for the poor and leave politics alone, and the people need to remember what a mess he got us in long ago . i remember that iranian faux pax all to well. having worked there 13 years i knew iran well, tehran, shiraz, isfahan, et al. the idea that they were gonna take chinouks and fly over 800 miles into the stadium in tehran, drive 16 miles across tehran with about 2,000,000 fanatic iranians demonstrating in the streets, rescue the hostages and then drive back across the city to the stadium was by far the most idiotic military plan ever devised in the history of the world. as it turned out the choppers broke down in the desert by yazd, some lives were lost and all was a publicity fiasco.

had they asked a few of the folks that lived and worked in iran for a little advise, to a man, those in the know would have told them to just take a couple of C 130's and fly in to qom the city where khomani lived and stayed, landed right on the wide dirt streets, driven right up to khomani's door and taken him hostage as there was literally no defense mechanism in place, taken him hostage and gotten anything we wanted.

now, president does good by his hands on activities with habitat for humanity. no one can fault him for this activity.

I was born and lived about 20 miles from the Carter family . I was employed by the State of Georgia for two years while he was governor. Knew the whole nutty family.

Many of us here voted for him for president because we mistakenly believed it would move him out of Georgia and out of our hair. But no! He is like a cancer that will not go away and only get worse, His wife Rosalynn Carter, aka the Steel Magnolia was a different matter, Highly respected and believed to be the one of the two with the "balls".

In my opinion, he is and will always remain the worst president of the United States. Although, as things now look, Obama may even exceed his stupid and incompetent administration.

With regard to Habitat for Humanity, you might be interested in where it all started. We here in the South first heard of the Koinonia Farm, a commune, in the 1950s when a Black child was born of a White woman in the "White" children's ward of the Sumter County hospital. The newborn was promptly moved to the "Black" ward of the hospital.

The Sumter County community, of which Carter was a member, erupted with demonstrations. For a long time after, merchants would not sell to members of the Koinonia community.

GS.................com'n, wise up. Millions of people voted for Pres Obama, for all sorts of reasons. Some of these voted for him purely because he IS African American.

Likewise, millions of people didn't vote for him for all sorts of reasons. Some of these didn't vote for him purely because he is African American.

Now, with all that is going on, particularry the Health care debate, are you suggesting that no one, absolutely no one, who is disagreeing with him, isn't doing so because of the color of his skin. No one....????

Most people that are in disagreement with him, have a different view on the issues. Most people. But to suggest that for a few, his colour is not the issue, is living in fantasy land.

Carter concerned Chavez has become authoritarian

BOGOTA, Colombia — Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter says he is disappointed by Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez and concerned he is increasingly shifting toward an authoritarian regime.

Carter says Chavez initially helped the country by sharing national wealth. But Carter says Chavez is now consolidating political power, making it "almost impossible" for the Obama Administration to establish friendly relations with Venezuela.
