I wanted to buy my girlfriend a ring. Would it be a better choice to buy the ring in Bogotá or the US? I probably want a gold ring with a small diamond or even moissanite. where do you find reputable jewelers in Bogotá?

Bluesdude says on Nov 8, 2008, 07:08: My experience is that if you have a good relationship with a jeweler in the US, jewelry with diamonds is generally cheaper, even in Costco. Emeralds, Aquamarine and other stones of the Beryl family are generally cheaper in Colombia and Brazil. Don't know too much about the cost of gold here vs. the US. houstongal (Trustee board) says on Nov 9, 2008, 15:54: Sam Salmon - I beg to differ. I love the design of the emeralds I purchsed in Bogota. The setting is unusual for the necklace. The earrings are set in heavy 18k posts. I like knowing that I probably won't see these items on anyone in the U.S. I get a lot of compliments on both. Papi de Alejo says on Nov 11, 2008, 07:44: I think that part of the understanding of prices of fine jewelery in the US vs Colombia has to do with the advertising practices used in the US. Has anyone ever wondered why all of the jewelery is always on sale and even when it isn't the clerk has to do some kind of calculation to tell you how much it costs. You are paying more for hype than you are paying for the gold. Live simply... Love generously... Care deeply... Speak kindly... 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

La_Huella says on Nov 11, 2008, 08:42: It's DIRT cheap in the gulf states or in Hong Kong or Bangkok. It all has to do with the labor, which does make a huge difference in the price. But hey, misinformation is what this site is all about, why stop now??

La_Huella says on Nov 11, 2008, 12:24: OK now.... Gratamira is different. That's amusing you said Suba instead of Gratamira. Gratamira is REAL ritzy, and it's TECHNICALLY part of the alcaldía menor de Suba, but then again so is everything north of calle 80 and west of Av Suba.
