Jeblue Ticket $102.00 US including all Fees from Orlando to Bogota Expedia

Hey guys,

I just booked a ticket on 11/04/2009 that lives Orlando at 5:30 PM and gets to Bogota at 9:30 PM.

At first it was 112, then expedia came back with the price ten bucks cheaper when I went to buy it!

Great deal.

Someone I know has amigos that go to Puerto Rico a lot and they recently paid $54 and $76 for round trip flights all impuestos fees etc incluido.

With these fares and a nice thread report on here yesterday about Cali looks like I need to go to Cali very soon.

I just booked a one-way ticket on JetBlue from Bogota to Orlando for next month, total cost about $180. However, I was surprised at the fine print in the e-ticket they emailed me which was not specified in any of the terms and conditions beforehand. It mentions a $69.40 tax payable to the Colombian government as a fuel surcharge. Presumably, this is in addition to all the other departure taxes you get charged for at the airport. I am still quite unclear on just what it will cost to leave the country now. The amount of tax on the airline ticket that was paid when I bought it is $66.60.

So will I now have to pay: $33 departure fee plus the normal extra exit tax charged for staying more than 60 days plus $69.40 plus other unknown charges?

Is JetBlue cheaper partly because some taxes are not included that are included in other airline tickets?

Jet Blue advisory in email after you purchase your ticket:

For Colombian travel, Customer is responsible for paying the following taxes, fees and surchages. Except as noted herein, taxes and fees are included in the total fare paid by passenger: United States government taxes and fees, a $33.00 Colombian airport fee for departures out of Colombia, a fuel surcharge imposed by the Colombian government of $69.40 each way for travel originating in Colombia, and VAT taxes. For travel originating out of Colombia and/or purchased in Colombia via telephone or in person an administrative fees will be included in the total fare paid by the Customer as follows: (1) $11.00 for base fare of less than $300.00, (2) $20.00 for base fare between $300-$499, (3) $33.00 for base fare between $500-$799, and (4) $68.00 for base fare of $800.00 or more. No administrative charges will apply for internet bookings. For Colombian and foreign residents exiting Colombia, an additional resident tax will apply for departures out of Colombia. In order for Customers to be exempt from this tax, passenger must show documentation confirming non-resident status. Resident tax is collected at the airport. A Colombian Tourism Tax of $10.00 will also apply to all passengers departing the United States for travel to Colombia. This tax is collected at the airport at the U.S. point of origin. Colombian citizens are exempt from the Tourism Tax.

Hey Kramer, you might not have to pay the fuels surcharge:"

"a fuel surcharge imposed by the Colombian government of $69.40 each way for travel originating in Colombia"

for travel is ORIGINATING in Colombia........your travel is originating in USA.

Bon Voyage.

Hi barrumundi,

No, I am flying 1-way from Bogota to Orlando. I am living in Colombia right now and leaving next month.

There is also a higher airport exit tax surcharge, I understand, for any non-resident who has been here longer than 60 days. This additional tax is unrelated, I believe, to this mysterious new fuel surcharge tax mentioned in my confirmation email from JetBlue.

I am guessing I may have to pay something like $64 exit tax plus $69 fuel surcharge which is $133, plus maybe some other gringo taxes thrown in for good measure.

I once tried to buy a round trip in the middle of the another ticket that I was buying and kept getting higher fares out of Colombia. After I read the fine print, I discovered that if a ticket originates in Colombia, the Colombian government charges a fuel surcharge on that ticket.

You know, I wonder if this this why airlines like Spirit don't sell 1-way tickets to the USA?

So the charge does not apply for a round trip purchase originating from the USA, even though the flight back originates in Colombia?

Kramer,

Did you buy it off of Jet Blues website? They only put the cost of the ticket and they do state that it does not reflect any taxes or fees when calculating the final cost.

I buy my tickets on expedia or orbitz, because they calculate the total ticket cost with all taxes and fees included.

My ticket was 69 dollars and the rest were taxes.

You just did not see the fine print.

I read the fine print -- correctly, I think. No, my ticket was only $112.98 on the page you posted. I paid 68.60 in taxes. So the total ticket was $179.58. I thought that covered all the taxes and I just went through the process again and there was no hint that more taxes were due (until you receive the email and the surprise unpaid tax).

So I don't believe that they stated there were even more taxes related to the ticket, not the usual exit taxes, that remain unpaid.

I think this is one reason that JetBlue's prices seem cheaper, they don't include taxes in the ticket that other airlines do?

Orbitz does not cover flights originating in Colombia, although I have used Orbitz many times, I fly all over the world every year. Expedia does not include JetBlue for Colombia, apparently, it has the cheapest price for Bogota to Orlando at over $500 on this date.

So I guess I am right, I will have to pay at least $135 at the airport to leave Colombia . . .

Anyway, I will post on this thread after I leave about how much I had to pay at the airport so that others are aware.

Maybe this is just a misunderstanding and that tax is not due in this case.

Thanks,
Kramer

Kramer,

I would not mention it at the airport, just see if they try and make you pay it. No need to alert them to the situation!

flatline,

Thanks, lol. I will be sure not to mention the fee ;-)

Excuse me, but I think there is an unpaid tax that I might owe, and I have $140.000 COP if there is someone to receive it for me, do you think you can help? ;-)

Kramer,

Last time I went to the airport to get my waiver for the exit fee, the woman at the desk says "Please tell me how you got a Colombian Passport:"

I said "Well, I am dual citizen"

I guess she thought I magicked one out of thin air.
