jardin Are you referring to the town of Jardin about 3 hours south of Medellin? I just returned from Colombia this week and Jardin was one of my favorite stops.

What do you want to know?

I actually went there because my friend's family grew up there and a cousin was getting married. So my experience in Jardin was probably not a typical tourist's experience... I imagine that the reason I liked it so much is because of my friend's family history there.

Jardin is a small town surrounded by very rich farmland. The town itself is absolutely beautiful!!! There are tourists there, but mainly Colombian tourists. I was there during the week, so I did not see the busiest days, which are supposedly much different. On Wednesday, most of the town actually shuts down!

Jardin is a bit out of the way if you are coming from somewhere like Medellin. I thought it was perfectly magical, but I suppose that depends on what you are expecting to do... (?)

exactly... cecilia -

yes... the town. after a short stop in medellin and cartagena, my fiance and i plan on taking a trip to see jardin, which is where she was born and raised. mainly i was just curious to see who has been and what they thought of it, but i must admit, i'm a bit concerned about the drive there and back, since i'm the most american (white) tourist that's probably ever been there. i must say that from the pictures that she has shown me and from what she tells me, i can't wait to see the countryside for myself...

am i being overly concerned?

yes, people who haven't been to colombia only hear the bad things, how unfortunate. the drive to jardin and the town itself are completely safe. i am just as white/american as you are, i assure you. my friend is even more gringa than i am and we took a taxi there from medellin in the middle of the day for 17,000 pesos each. travelling during the day is your best bet anywhere.

if your girlfriend grew up there you MUST go there. you will learn a lot about her! and if she still has family there you will probably get to visit the local fincas, which were my favorite part. my friend's family practically lives off the land. and they were really excited to have american guests - that was a whole new experience for them!

i hope you love jardin as much as i did!
