Japanese Products in Bogota?

Hi there....

So far Colombia has been great and I am just wondering if there is any place or stores in Bogota that sells Japanese products (to make sushis and other Japs food) So far I only managed to find the rice...and I can't find the most important stuff such as nori (dried seaweed), japanese vinegar and mayonnaise. Any ideas?

Help is on the way Carrefour has all that. It's not cheap, but you can get nori, rice vineger and what passes for sushi rice here. Also, Pomona sells vinegar, good soy sauce, etc.

Just curious.... I don't know if I missed it as I have been reading a lot of your posts Christine, but what are you working as?

And also what uni did you go to in Melbourne (I've been meaning to ask for a while). I'm just finishing my final semester at La Trobe and then I'll be going back to Colombia....Finally!

Hey Emily,

I studied at Deakin University (Burwood Campus) and graduated with a BA in Media Arts (Screen Studies major). At this very moment, I am just working part time as an AV Editor for a marriage&dating agency. This is something really new to me but it is a great experience!

So, when exactly are you coming back? Kinda missed Melbourne though. :) bring some koalas here!

Watch out! I remember that we had a poster asking about using marriage agency and he was flamed by several women on the board. Hopefuly you won't get flamed for working at one. Question, are you getting paid on local wage scale or better(because you know english)?

Soon.... About 12 weeks now Christina, Woohoo!!
I'm just having Christmas and New Years here to make my family and friends happy and then I'll be flying out A.S.A.P.

That's a really interesting job, I just completed the TESOL course so that I can teach English when I go there because I highly doubt that I would get a job in my field with my poor Spanish when there are plenty of bi-lingual Colombians. I will also start studying Spanish too, but at the moment it is kind of up in the air as to if I will be in Bogota or Cali.

If I come to Bogota I'll do my best to bring a Koala....or some Tim Tams at least!

Ooops, I juz hope that I won't get any part of my body kicked for working in this agency... I am not really part of the marketing or management team.. I am juz on the creative side which means I am only helping to produce videos for the agency. What makes my job interesting is I get to look at beautiful Colombianas from all over the country. Easy way to see different types of Colombians from different regions!

I don't get very good pay but then I don't expect much for a part time job in Bogota. At least I am getting paid more than a full time worker at the minimum wage! Well, knowing English is not a necessity here as now I am kind of forced to pick up Spanish faster in order to understand whatever the girls are saying in the videos..

not flamed Don't worry Christina about flaming. The customer that was inquiring about marriage agencies didn't get flamed either; only received some minor criticism and good advice from me:) as far as I can remember.

japanese products
As far as food the best place to find japanese stuff is a korean supermarket located in la castellana, we have these days lots of koreans cause korea is really into selling their goods in colombia.
Is where the korean embassy staff and bussines families, buy their loved kimchi. the owners are korean and they have some mixed colombian korean staff. is in my opinion the best place because you kind even find eel, the tofu is home made, and nori (sea weed) they seel by hundreds. japanese and korean food allways sell toghether. the address is: cr 29 calle 90. 2 block from there there is a japanese language school (very bad school in fact)
there is a little supermarket in a shopping mall called Salitre plaza you can find japanese food in there. and there is a new cozy sushi place wich have supermarket in calle 93 or 94 carrera 11 (on the west side of avenida 11).
as for goods like kitchen stuff house items there is a place called "maravillas japonesas" is a big place with only japanese imported cheap things is in calle 135 avenida 19.

the address are not excat but you cant miss. or do the colombian (ask someone)
