anyone else find it interesting that this all goes down today and mccain spends tues night in cartagena???? santos and brownfield both said that mccain was notified last night of the rescue mission and was given total access to all information.

was this picked by uribe et all as a way to try to help the person they see as the best ally in office for them????

just wondering.

Oh, Jesus... all this conspiracy crap with McCain is just toooo much. Unless there's video of McCain flying the helicopter it's not going to mean anything in the campaign or the election. Of course we have Democrats stating that his visit to Colombia means he endorses the murder of labor organizers... Politics in the US is no less ridiculous than anywhere else.

PBH:
Whether is was coincidence or not it was a brilliant operation, and it took a lot of US$$$$ to train and provide intelligence, and without that help....ummm dunno. GOD BLESS THE USA COLOMBIAN MILITARY FORCES , and our COLOMBIAN PRESIDENT ALVARO URIBE VELEZ
Cheers
PS: maybe will wager when in Colombia next year!!!

Obama was very quick and very generous in his praise and support for Uribe. McCain's statement (the one I saw, mind you) was pretty limp and un-presidential in my opinion. Disappointing! Points for Obama here.

brad216 says on Jul 2, 2008, 19:32:

i am proud to be a democrat but i do not accept anything obama says about colombia. this is a guy that has no interest in colombia and has stated his feelings many times about what he thinks about plan colombia and uribe.

i do like that he is against free trade agreement which would only help the colombian wealthy but hurt the poor but i don't like how he talks down about colombia because of how he feels about the gov't and it's dealings with unions.

he might have said the right things about the operation today....but just a couple of days ago stated that mccain is only visiting colombia to help him gain the latino vote and win swing states like florida. to me that shows a disrespect for the colombian and latino americans.

i still might vote for him..i m not sure...but if i do...it won't be because of his feelings on colombia.

Brad, please keep in mind I am only, ONLY, referring to today and the statements the candidates issued in response! I agree with your contempt for the lack of dignity most politicians afford the countries of Latin America. That Obama would suggest that McCain's only motive for travelling is so cynical and insincere is, I feel, illuminating. One could ask if he's projecting. That's my opinion. However, I think this is a day that Colombia should be allowed to celebrate proudly, with dignity, and undiminished by this kind of preocupation. Just my two cents :)

Interesting fact they just mentioned on CNN. The reason they painted the chopper white and orange was because the venezuelan choppers that picked up the previous groups of hostages released were painted that color scheme. Pretty sharp my homies ;)
