It's A Jungle Out There

A puma captured at a Cali Country Club's tennis courts. Not enough with the trannies off the Sexta you are not so safe at the country club in Cali either....

You're sure you want to play tennis with this guy?
You are scared of Nelly's little stripey mountain cat....

Did he escape from the ZOO?

Don't worry, the puma has a new home at the Cali ZOO, which is not so bad. But it doesn't get to play tennis.

I hope the Cali zoo is better than the Medellin zoo then.

They don't know where it came from. Not the zoo, though, they think it may have been living in one of the houses in the vicinity.

I haven't been to Medellin Zoo so I can't compare but I've heard people say that Cali Zoo is one of the best in Colombia.

Where is the zoo in Medellin?

When i wnet to the Medellin it was okay. The biggest turn off was the rotting carcasses in the pen areas. I presume they were food stock.

The masturbating, cigarette smoking chimpanzee was a first for me anyway.

If Dar is afraid of a stripey mountain cat I can sympathize. I was mauled by a girlfriends Maine Coon cat.

Thanks Mongo, he's a lovely cat indeed!

But (if you check that thread:
http://poorbuthappy.com/colombia/post/cor-is-that-a-colombian-cat/), I can confirm he has "tigrillo del monte" genes. Nelly's father (who lives in Santa Marta) gave it to us. This cat is a monster and a predator. I'm ashamed to show my calves in public on the beach - too many scratch marks. Oh well, we're currently living on a third floor flat (and the cat doesn't seem to mind). Come October, we'll be moving to a house with a patio in Barranquilla. More importantly, I'll be be bringing my four cats from France. The poor sods don't stand a chance... ;-)

The cat needed to be tranquilized, then transported out of the region near Cali and released, not to go to a zoo. Not sure if this is where it went as I did not read the article, lets hope not....Can see it is very healthy though....

BTW, what's the difference between a puma and a cougar? (Not really familiar with American felines)

It appears that the lion is not actually in the Cali zoo, but rather an animal rescue mission, in Cali.

“CALI, Columbia -- Through the bars of his cage, an African lion named Jupiter stretches his giant paws around the neck of Ana Julia Torres and plants a kiss on her puckered lips. It could be a kiss of gratitude: Since Jupiter was rescued six years ago from a life of abuse and malnutrition in a traveling circus, Torres has fed and nursed him back to health at her Villa Lorena shelter for injured and mistreated animals. "Here we have animals that are lame, missing limbs, blind, cross-eyed, disabled," said Torres, 47, who relies on donations and her own modest teacher's salary to run the shelter in a poor neighborhood in the southern city of Cali. "They come to us malnourished, wounded, burned, stabbed, with gunshots."”

Update from Cali:
this puma is just a baby. He's just about 8 months old and has been separated from mum too early: has not learned to hunt and has no chance to survive if released to the jungle. He's also too large to be accepted as part of another puma family. He has no chance except to stay at the zoo.

Meanwhile, he's behaving just like a scared cat, very stressed and upset. He's been checked up thoroughly at the zoo and is getting what is called "the royal treatment" there.

Panther (like Florida panther), puma, cougar, and mountain lion are all the same thing, with regional differences in size. To try and save the Florida panther population, they introduced western US mountain lions to breed into the Florida panther population.
