it this visa I got useful

Hi, I live in Ireland and I am married to a Colombiana. I got last week my visa to move to colombia (some kind of spouse visa) which is valid for 2 years.

Sadly, we decided to divorce. The divorce process will only be started up once we are in Colombia. After we got divorced, will I be able to stay in Colombia.

Thanks a lot

You're probably better off with a regular visa. And also, try asking the Colombian consulate, they should be able to tell you. Good luck!

Hi yurany,

Peter is right. They have a similar visa system here. It's called the Prospective Spouse Visa.

The issue the temporary "Prospective Spouse" visa to the spouse of a Colombian citizen and it allows them to live in Colombia for a period of two years.

At the end of the two years, you are interviewed by officials. If it is confirmed that you are in fact still married with your Colombian spouse, you will be issued a permanent Resident Visa.

It should be pointed out that the person sponsoring a foreign national for this kind of visa may only sponsor two spouses in their life-time. I'm not sure whether you will qualify for another spouse visa after this one - I couldn't find that information - sorry.

Best wishes.

YES AND NO, your visa will be good until it expires, then in two years when you try and renew it, you will need a notarized letter from YOUR WIFE asking the Colombian Govt to give you a renewal of the visa, since SHE is your SPONSOR to remain in Colombia.

if you have a passport issued in Ireland, you may have some difficulty getting a colombia visa.

i just had a case like this and we could not help him get a visa. it seems the colombian govt has put some kind of stop on the Irish because of training of the guerillas.

spousal could be possible though, but my lawyer friend here says no.
