Isla Del Rosario I generally recomend my Norwegian friends place (Finn martin) when prople ask, Hotel KoKoMo:

http://www.hotelkokomo.com/index.htm

It already is a nice place, Finn has just sold some of his investemt to an American, they are using that and other money to make the place even better.

There are other hotels on the Rosario Islands, a quick search of this site on the top right of this page will give you other options as well.

Hunter... ...When we inquired about property in the Islas Rosario's we were informed that title was a problem. In fact we were shown news reports of the Government reclaiming most of the offshore islands.

The other problem we discovered is that you would have to live there year round or otherwise have it guarded because people just move in and won't leave.

Do you know if property is indeed available there?

Hunter says on Nov 15, 2005, 06:12:

aztec When Colombia became independant, it was it was agreed that any UN-OCCUPIED islands belonged to the goverment.

The Islas Del Rosario where not un-occupied, the goverments from the past were still claiming that the Islands were un-occupied, but historically it won't wash, seeing as there is a large amount of documented evidence that the Islands were inhabited before Colombia became independant.

At the moment, Uribes goverment are trying to sort out the above problem (for 3 years now, but everything moves slowly here), because it is holding up development of some Islands for tourism.

Many of the private Islands in the Rosario group are also owned by some of Colombias richest people, so any goverment is unlikely to be able to get the upper hand, they certainly haven't fo the last few decades and I can't see that changing.

On the security side I agree, you will need somebody there 365 days of the year, otherwise things will go missing, possibly somebody squatting there, but they would be easy to get rid of.

"Do you know if property is indeed available there?"....for what purpose, to buy a house, plot of land, I know plenty of people and can ask around if you are more specific.

Hunter... ...Thanks. We were interested in a house on one of the Islands but when they discovered we were Gringos the price doubled. That is the truth! The price was listed and only went up when we called about the property from the USA.

That is when I learned about the Gringo tax.

Hunter says on Nov 15, 2005, 14:32:

aztec Its easy enough to avoid the gringo tax etc.

Send me a PM if you want, with more detailed information.
