Isla Rosario trip

Hey folks-

I'm heading down to CTG for about 3 days, and want to do a day trip over to the Islas Rosario with the lady. Enjoy some beach time, eat lunch, drink, swim, otherwise just be lazy. Checked the site and didn't find much info on this specifically, so I figured I'd give it a try.

Anyone know the approx. cost of the boat ride over there (and back) from mainland CTG, where to catch the boat, best beach to hit, any potential local travel agents who could assist? I've heard the Hilton may have something, but really not certain about that. I'll be in the Laguito area, but pretty flexible.

Any assistance you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

My own trip to las Islas del Rosario Here are some pics of my own
Islas del Rosario trip last November. Couldn't pass the chance to show 'em off. Sorry I don't have any hard facts to share, as I was a guest.

Hotel Santa Clara has a sister resort out on the island. The price is about what babygirl said, $40 including boat. I don't remember if lunch was included.

The beach out there is no great shakes (lots of coral, little sand) but it's a fun trip. I'd actually suggest thinking about spending a night out there.

Hunter Thanks to all for responding. I've also read those threads. I wasn't asking about hotels or islands. Moreso, how to get there and how much. Wasn't planning on staying there overnight, just a day trip.

I did see that many go thru pre-packaged tours. I do not need a US-based travel agent. I already have the airfare and apartment situation under control.

Just asking for help in maybe identifying some of the local tour guide options to the Rosario Islands, as well as some feedback on the people's opinions of the best beaches, etc. as an enhancement to previous threads. Are there many travel agencies in Cartagena where you can walk in and book a tour/trip there? Or is it something where you can walk into the Hilton and ask for assistance with that request?

tone, what's up dude? listen i went to a place called cocoliso, something like that. lunch and ride on a big boat was like 40 bucks. they leave around 8 and return in the afternoon.
i don't recomed the smaller boats, it could get nasty in that water, specially the ride back.

I'll get there, when I get there!

Thx Elmo Yeah, I was warned that the waves are pretty choppy in the afternoon, coming back. I plan to steer clear of the smaller boats going to the Islas Rosario. A bit too far to chance it.

Took a smaller boat over to Tierrabomba (???), the isle directly across from Laguita, but experienced no issues with the waves coming back. It's only a 5-10 min ride, and only cost 20.000COP r/t per person.

I'll ask around about Cocoliso.

Yes there will be a place at the Hilton to ask for information on booking a tour, I'm sorry I just can't remember the name of the tour operator right now.

toneloc24 You have two overall choices where to book up:

The first is with one of the hotels that own (or have a deal with the owner) an Island.

The second is where the tourist boats leave for the Islands, a couple of minutes walk from the clock tower. Ignore the touts offering you their deals and just walk into the only entance and there are ticket booths just as you enter, obviously you will need to know exactly where you are going to use this route.

I think a one way ticket is either 6,000 or 10,000 pesos for the boat ride only.

I can't really comment on which is the best Island, hopefully somebody else will, I only know my friends private Island, I think you can do a day trip there, but you will have to ask them that:

Isla Rosario The tour agency in the Hilton is called GEMA tours. They speak english and don't seem to charge anymore than anyone else. There are several more little tour agencies in bocagrande/laguito, along with street vendors that sell the trips. You can just bypass them and arrive at the boat launch around 8AM, boats leave around 8:30. I paid 105,000 pesos for 3 people including lunch. You will regret taking a smaller boat, if you must do this, SIT IN THE MIDDLE of the boat, it may help avoid some of the water splashing on you, but probably not. Another option is to take the trip with the Decameron hotel to their private island. I'ts closer than la isla Rosario, you're in a big boat, and they drink and dance, etc on the way there and back. The island is nice, clean water, good food, few vendors. You just show up at the Decameron at 7:30AM if you want to go, it's like 55,000 pesos per person.

Thx Saltador Great info.

Both options sound great. I'm assuming I was told correctly that the Hilton's trip features a larger boat. The larger boat is the plan, no matter which isle I decide to hit.

Now, it's gonna be pretty interesting trying to get the novia and the other couple up in time to make it anywhere by 7:30. Esp. after a wild nite of partying, LOL!!
