IS this an insult?

Paisa29 maintains that this comment is not an insult when I called her out on writing insulting comments in Spanish. She's not the only one who does it and actually her insult is rather mild as PBSH goes. Nevertheless I do think that saying "leyendo las niñerias de algunos miembros, entonces me avisan si maduran y yo regreso" is an insult. Also I notice that in her comment to me about my Spanish she didn't actually translate her comment but instead said something slightly different in English. How stupid do you think we are? My question is: were her comments an insult or not?

It's certainly a diss, a little weak to be an insult IMHO. Lots of folks resort to the "some members" fudge, though. These questions are always subjective, of course.

utopiacowboy says on Apr 13, 2007, 17:42:

Actually I agree with her and I would go further and say "leyendo las tonterías de algunos miembros' or "leyendo la basura de algunos miembros". What I don't like is they write it in Spanish as though it was a secret code to others "in the know" like we're too dumb to read it. OTOH, I think the whole site should be in Spanish - that would eliminate just about all the posts that they complain about as well as reduce the traffic on the site. Continuaría escribir mis bobadas.

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

I'm not a member of any webcam chat sites, Rubito. Frankly, I'm a busy guy, who wastes too much time here in the wee hours when work is slow. Internet chatting would do me in -- prefer the discussions at www.straightdope.com, where I have been posting for years. I'll accept your word, though. I'll take it for granted that you have done a thorough survey of all the working girls you could find, and verified your (preformed) hypotheses. Did you ask them which country was the most tacaño, while you were at it? How long does it take before you can identify all the webcam chat rooms in Bogotá, anyhow? Perhaps we hang with different folks. ;)

we didn't he ran himself out. He put us at an impossible situation; to choose between him or Mr. Clavo. You can't blackmail the mods. Nobody made him go away; he chose to leave the board all by himself.

UC, no, paisa29's comment about childishness in posts was not an ad hominem attack. Gods only know there's enough childishness going on here...you're not the only silly one. If I had to ban people for being childish, silly, unruly, whiney, gossipy or just plain foolish half of the board would have to go.

UC, keep on putting the disclaimer in your posts; you'll need it.I would, however, appreciate it very much if you'd quit that "if you can't beat them, join them" silliness and went back to being the nice guy like you really are.

Desi

Threatening the moderators? How does someone threaten the moderators? By leaving the site? That makes no sense. Now Desi, as to your comment:

"If I had to ban people for being childish, silly, unruly, whiney, gossipy or just plain foolish half of the board would have to go."

No Desi. I don't think anyone should be kicked off the site for being any of the above. But it did it all ever occur to you that you might want to kick someone off the site that consistently hurls personal insults at other people just because they disagree with their opinion....all the while using foul language to boot? I guess it hadn't. There is a difference.

As to this comment about UC:
"UC, keep on putting the disclaimer in your posts; you'll need it.I would, however, appreciate it very much if you'd quit that "if you can't beat them, join them" silliness and went back to being the nice guy like you really are."

I guess you did not understand that PM I sent you a week or so ago. I commented about UC, and how he changed. I even told you why. It is his way of dealing with a lot of the nonsense he reads here. He could debate, and express his point of view, and then get insulted from here to high heaven while moderation does nothing, or he can just make a mockery of people and the points that are made, and most of the time, it just sails over the heads of most of the people here because of their lack of ability to understand his dry humor. He would prefer it that way. This way he gets his point through, and avoids the flack at the same time.

As to him returning to "the nice guy he is", well......wrong again Desi. He is still a nice guy. I have communicated with him several times. He is a very nice guy. So don't confuse his posts that illustrate his sentiments about the site, with his what type of person he is. The two are unrelated.

Consider this Desi, considering he is the guy who created the term "PBSH", I don't think you are going to see him changing the tone of his posts anytime soon. Bet on it.

Do not imagine, comrades, that leadership is a pleasure. On the contrary, it is a deep and heavy responsibility. No one believes more firmly than Comrade Napoleon that all animals are equal. Constant whining about the Mods is self-defeating and a bore.... Threatening the moderators?

Funny, I don’t seem to remember anyone threatening the mods….threatening with an ultimatum maybe…..and threatening to kick the asses of some posters, too…....accusing the owner of PBH of booting him off and questioning if the same owner had the cajones to admit it??? hmmm...like a bull in a china shop....

“How does someone threaten the moderators? By leaving the site? That makes no sense. “
You don’t make any sense, G5..how can you interpet Desi’s remarks as you do? It was pointed out that HE chose (remember that word, as in he had a choice to leave, stay, or whatever) to leave after having a virtual meltdown….

“ I don't think anyone should be kicked off the site for being any of the above. But it did it all ever occur to you that you might want to kick someone off the site that consistently hurls personal insults at other people just because they disagree with their opinion....all the while using foul language to boot? I agree, there is a difference between someone voluntarily abandoning a forum, and one who gets booted off. And, if you are referring to moiiiiiii, my posts normally do not use such profanity other than what is commonly used on PBH….i can provide a list of words that I use, and it is nothing compared to some posters….so ratchet up your sensitivity levels a little, wont you? If not, I have no doubt you will get over it…or you will constantly be feeling self-imposed stress..…When posters constantly trashtalk, badmouth, belittle, demean, criticize and make blatant derogatory statements to no end about Colombia, Colombians, Colombianas, abuelas/abuelos, etc for no other reason than to put them down or ridicule them, is when I call (cover your ears, please!) Bullshit! If the statement looks like BS, smells like BS, well, it just might be BS! I have this nasty habit of calling Bullshit simply Bullshit. And if some self-proclaimed pseudo-intellectual or pseudo-expert (whether he/she lives in Colombia for X years but is non-Colombian, or is a part-time Colombian who only visits there occasionally) takes it upon himself to actively spew his obvious propaganda and storytelling, then this person should be prepared to take the heat for it, from people who don’t share the same animosity toward Colombia. Real simple concept, really. One should not talk trash, if they wont accept trashtalk in return……sort of like the principle of dishing it out but not being able to take it in return, without flaming out……

“Consider this Desi, considering he is the guy who created the term "PBSH", I don't think you are going to see him changing the tone of his posts anytime soon. Bet on it.

I didn't say "threaten" Gomez I said "blackmail" and they are two different things. DG said that he would stop posting if we didn't ban M_Clavo; that it was going to be either him or the other guy. I call it blackmailing. I don't ban people for having a difference of opinion, even if it's consistent. Personal attacks are not allowed, of course, but sometimes it's difficult to draw a line between bantering and insults. I personally have a very low tolerance for foul language but I believe that the standard NA way of expressing oneself is much more tolerant in that sense, but I will apply some type of middle ground criteria here.

Oh, I understood your P.M. just fine, Gomez. I read it several times, as a matter of fact. I'm well familiar with the reasons Mr. Cowboy can have for behaving the way he does I just wish that he didn't. I liked him much better before when he was being himself.

Cheers,
Desi

As to UC, well.....he does not comment much about the politics of the site. Maybe he does not want to come off as a whiner.....like.....whoever. But, it's way of expressing his disapproval. OK,,,,the Parrot (Maxie) is hungry.....
