Both exist in Cartagena so I am sure you'll find them in Medellin, but Miguel is right very expensive way to send money. Enjoy your stay.

to answer the man's question, yes...there seems to be western union office in alot of places. Even in smaller Colombian towns. By smaller, I'm talking about those with a few hundred thousand population.

yes Western Union and Moneygram both service Colombia. I have used both, I recommend Moneygram they charge less and they are a friendlier service.

goin_south says on Jul 1, 2007, 20:49:

scotty,....About how much cheaper is Money Gram, than Western Union?
And, agreed, Western Union is NOT USER FRIENDLY. I understand, but... they got too damn many procedures in place for security reasons. And, it's not always on the receiving end! Sometimes, difficult to SEND!

as recent as 4 months ago..i use that as a backup system to cover my monthly office expenses......ATMs present thier own problems to me......non-payout by the ATM even though they withdraw the $$ from my account....fake bills, variable withdrawal limits even though it is supposed to be fixed.......advising my manager at the ATM there is NSF, but there prabably 10x what they are withdrawing......it is really frustrating at times, so WU is more timely but also more $$

If you have a "Dolex", I think that is the cheapest way to go at only a few dollars service charge no matter what the amount you send.

goin_south, to be honest with you I don't recall off hand what the savings was when i switched from Western Union to Moneygram. For several years i sent money to Colombia via Western Union and they were always screwing something up and they were always over charging me, in fact at one time they had to send me a refund check because they over charged me. I became so frustrated with Western Union I switched to Moneygram and since going with Moneygram I have had no problems.

Western Union will not let me use their account on email. Only on call in's. Emoneygram had someone hacking my account when down in Cali for the holidays. I found a new one and are using it now. It's also cheaper than both WU or Emoney. It's called Ikobo. So far great. Have been using them for like 4 months. Just google and go from there !

All over the world there are outlets for Dolex. In california, there are literally hundreds of them in the Mexican communties. Almost every grocery store has one. I know there are tons of these in all southern border states including Florida.

The beauty of Dolex is that you can apply for a 'card' that will even make things easier to transfer dough to Colombia.

But the real beauty is the cost; I transferred 5.000.000 COP for $8.

I cannot believe you can find a more convenient y barato service than this.

I see Buengone is using IKOBO, Dolex is called IKOBO in some areas. It is the same company.
