Cali not as safe but has a more latin feel / edge to it; Medellin can be a bit 'plastic' . More foreigners in Med from what i've seen, but neither have many. Cali is friendlier IMO and has better nightlife; Medellin rains a hell of a lot, which is a pain in the ass. Both have small towns etc nearby which you can go to.

yup....shoot em up killum still plays out in medallo....maybe even cali, but it's been years since i went to cali and have no desire to return. i guess it's just about what your adjenda is all about. like agucho said above, i saw a couple of guys get killed really dead right in front of me in medallo years back. it would have been real easy to see a lot more, but my handlers always reminded me that "you didn't see nothin"...don't forget. back when, killing was as common as takin a crap. 24/7. the death rate in medellin was over 5,000 for the year. homocides. not like that now, but don't take foolish chances just because the murder rate is low. bad guys are bad guys, and do bad shit (don't forget that jay...no matter how bad you might be). being dead means just that...dead.

I am from the United States and I live in Cali. I am about as "bad" as Michael Jackson in the same-titled music video, but I haven´t had any problems. Grant you, I don´t go traipsing around Aguablanca or other such places and I keep my wits about me. However, if you just beat a murder wrap, I suggest you choose Medellin (for my safety)...

they're used to me being gone, as i worked all over the world for many many years. and they had nannies, mommies, et al keeping them cool. but when i sat up shop in colombia, i just got a "no dad" i ain't going there.

MR URIBE listen up. just gotta do something about this colombian image thing. i'm totally sold, i live here. but what about the other 8,999,999,999 folks in the world? colombia is the best, but if a father can't get his kids to move there, something's amuck.

I have a friend who was robbed in front of the EXITO in poblado, patio bonita a few weeks ago. So this crappy petty crime happens everywhere! I think I reduce the chances of getting robbed by wearing crappy crothing :) Noone wants to rob a grungy mochilero if he REALLY looks like has no money

well jay, if we're talkin 'risk' like i remember, that pretty much went the way of the whale. not that dangers don't lurk. but after you spend years developing your colombian 'ship's legs' you get it down pretty much to a science. i go where i want, when i want, with whom i want and feel pretty much bullet proof...just cause i don't act stupid, don't insult folks, respect all of colombia and treat her with a lot of love and care. kinda like a colombian...even more than a lot of em.
