Is there any "Jersey" in New York????

Almost everytime I talk to a Colombian here that says they lived or went to Miami, it almost always turns out that they went to the state of Florida, not necelryil Miami. Saying one lived in Miami usually sounds more prestigious, but in the end, they weren´t living on South Beach. I don´t know much of Florida, but the whole state seems fine to me.

I also get this when people here say they lived in New York, a lot have but a good number actually lived in New Jersey. Some have no clue that it´s a different state, some don´t care, and some like to say New York because it again brings more prestige. I usually like asking questions until I get the person to admit they didn´t live in NY for the last group.

My wife sees this as well, and a friend of her who says that she just got back from New York stayed in a town called "Jersey" or "New Jersey". Now she swears this town was in New York and she knows that there is a difference between New York and New Jersey. It took place in a seminar, so there were a lot of people throwing names around and trying to impress each other. My question is, just to make sure, is there any city or town with "Jersey" in it that is in New York? Kind of like East New York in New Jersey? I´m going to be around these broads later and wouldn´t want to pass up the opportunity to turn down a stuck up nose (in a gentlemanlike fashion of course). I´mfrom New York, so I will ask about what train she was near...etc. I did try to search the net, but kept getting nowhere, finding lots of neat things, but nothing pretaining to what I needed, Thanks!!!!!

miami is not South Beach................ Florida itself is very different from place to place. You can't compare Jacksonville to South beach. South beach only makes up a very small part of Miami. Most (not all) of miami is lower-middle class and probably has more crime than Colombia.
Jersey is the arm pit of the U.S. I hate Jersey.

Technically, there is no jersey... I was born in North Jersey, and I grew up mostly in South Jersey, but I noticed early on that you are either from the New York area, you say you are from the Philadelphia area, or you are from the Shore(beach). New Jersey does not really have a full identity, because it is between two major cities and much of the area in Jersey is considered sub-burbs of these cities.

So, New Jersey doesnt really exist :)

it´s more easier to say you´re from NY or Miami or Medellin... If I said I was from Weehawken or Hobokem, many would not know where that is yet you can get to Times Square from those Jersey towns faster than about 90% of the places in NYC.

I´ve lived in Brooklyn, Long Island, New Jersey, Da Bronx and Manhattan, and I simply say I was born and raised in New York.

If you live in Envigado or Sabaneta and you talk to someone who doesn´t know Colombia in that much definition, you´d probably just say you live in Medellin Colombia.

Yani-34,

Do not write about something that you do not know. How many years have you lived in Miami and did you owned a car? Yes, Florida is different from city to city but to say, “Most (not all) of Miami is lower-middle class and probably has more crime than Colombia. This is the most ludicrous statement I have ever heard. First of all most people that have money from South and Central America come to Miami for vacation, business and own homes and/or condos. Just look at property values and the growth of this city.

Let me give you names of cities, towns and areas; Coral Gables, Coco Plum, Gables Estates, Gables by the Sea, Coconut Grove, Brickell, Brickell Key, Star Island, Palm Island, Hibiscus Island, Fisher Island, Sunset Island 1, 2, 3, 4, Venetian, Bal Harbour, Golden Beach, Adventura, etc.

There are a lot more cities and areas but I do not have the time to write them all and I have not written down Broward and Palm Beach counties. Miami is full of actors, singer, rappers, football stars, basketball stars, baseball stars, tennis stars, etc. You do not want me to start writing all of the names of world famous people that live here or have a second home here. So I suggest you write about thing that you do know.

I studied Miami extensively Because for a time my GF was thinking of moving there, she had a job connection if she could get the visa but the visa was too problematic (surprise surprise).

Miami is actually surprisingly low-crime in all but a few little pockets, namely Opa-Locka, Florida City, and one more that I forget but it's WAY out there and you'd never get there unless you were planning to go there.

BTW Peter Miami, Aventura is in Broward Co :PP
My only big complaint about Miami is you really need to drive to get around there and traffic is HORRIBLE.

As for the original post, this person probably stayed in West New York, New Jersey, which used to be 99% Cuban but now has Salvadorans, Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, South Americans etc. It IS very convenient to Manhattan IF you work in Midtown, not so much so to other areas of NYC.
When I came to NYC I lived in Upper Manhattan, which is wrongly considered by many to be part of the Bronx, but it is also an hour by train away from Wall St, and about 1/2 hour from Times Square. Now I live in the Northwest Bronx.

Yani... Jersey's got a certain charm, though, you have to admit. I became very seasoned after growing up in Rahway. ;-)

Rubiazo Adventura is in Miami-Dade County it is part of North Miami. Trust me when I tell you this I was born and raise here. Check a map if you do not trust me.

Playground for the Rich One thing I forgot to mention Miami is the playground for the rich. I am out dancing every weekend and sitting in a table around me or dancing close by, you are guarantee in seeing rich and/or famous people Americans, Latinos (a lot of Colombia stars), and other nationalities. "What is done here stays here!" This is the slogan of for the people that come here.
