is the western diet having a damaging impact on the health of young colombians ?

a pizza hut , a pizza hut , a kentucky fried chicken & a wendys hut, mcdonalds, mcdonalds, kfc and a pizza hut........

plus, what exactly is the difference between morbidly orbese and grotesquely obese...

Colombians are perfectly capable of becoming obese on their own, home-grown comida chatarra. . . empanadas, papa alborojadas, marranitas, papa rellena, chicharron, chunculo, etc.

Yeah, even though they have our own share of burger and fries joints on top of the pre-existing fritangas, empanadas, pastel de pollo, and Frisby joints, they still manage to look thin. God only knows how much grease is going through their veins but they still look good.

Since when was Colombia not part of the "West"?

I saw stats recently that Mexico is now in second place for the most overweight nation. After the US of course.

I don't know Diana, I see quite a lot of fat people around Cali. At least as many as the UK.

I take back my comment. We're doomed!!! XD

Yes, I think the ranking for Mexico is No. 2 for obesity and might be No. 1 for diabetes, at least among large, relatively "open" countries. Other studies (I've only glanced at the headlines) have Saudia Arabia or one of the United Arab Emirates at the top.

Just eat one meal a day and you will have very few hospital bills.

I know when I still lived in Puerto Rico the Boriqueños were also porking up on the gringo fast food. It was not just the lechón.

I saw many grossly overweight people on Plaza de Armas, but it seemed perhaps, many came from the interior, and maybe no McDees there?

"... maybe no McDees there?"

But they do have great fried fish and tostones. All deliciously fried foods.

Oil in veins. The other month I bought and prepared some of those french fries and yuca sticks that are sold in the frozen food area of stores. After frying them in my good oil and after the oil cooled off, I noticed that the surface of my oil had a layer of semi thick white grease floating on top of it. The temp in my house is usually around 75F and the stuff had hardened. Palm oil?

Holly cow, that the stuff that goes into our body and veins. Not anymore. That crap will not ever enter my house again. I rarely fry anyway.

My Suegra cooks down animal and chicken fat to use in her cooking. Her blood tests have shown the affects. Doctors have warned her that she's killing herself, her family, my wife and my daughter when they eat there. Change? Hell no. Keep feeding that crap to her family. Yep. Can we all say ASSHOLE!

This is the same jerk that I almost punched out when I saw her smoking with my baby in her arms, in an enclosed room. Lung problems later for my daughter? Colombia has really taught me to hate some of its intentionally ignorant, inconsiderate, self-absorbed people.
