Is the national drink of Colombia, Aguardiente ..........the same as Sambuca?

tastes a lot alike if I have my names right.

Sambuca is the one usually served with coffee beans at the bottom of the glass?

Most countries have an anise flavoured alcohol. Anisette in France, Ouzo in Greece and loads more. I imagine anise gives them all a similar flavour.

Sambucca, Ouzo, or Galiano...they all have that annisette taste.

But staunch guardo drinkers say that it is NOT the same. Guardo is an acolhol, but the other are liqueures.

Personally, they are pretty the same. But I am sure an Italian would say that Guardo is different than Sambucca.

Sambuca, being Italian, is probably not made from sugar cane, as aguardiente is. But both are anise flavored distillates.

I think Sambuca is a sugar based alcohol.

Aguardiente is spicier or more peppery (is that a word?) than sambuca.
It's got more bite than buca, which is why I like it!
In a few days I'll see the virgin faces of 5 firefighters drinking it!!!!

Sambuca is not like Aguardiente.
I prefer Aguardiente.

I went knock out for a coupe of days in Ios many years ago drinking a full bottle of Ouzu.
It doesn't happen with Aguardiente.
I would never try it with Sambuca... bleah.

"I always thought Aguardiente tasted a but like the Italian grappa."
Now... that's an heresy!
Where is my grappa?

Sounds wierd, but aguardiente with ice and grapefruit juice isn't bad - but rum is much better if you have the option.
