Hi, I am helping my friend who lives in Colombia to prepare the necessary documents for her Tourist Visa interview. I am a US citizen and live in the United States. I wrote her an invitation letter saying I would cover all of her expenses for her trip and while she is her and also wrote a similar letter for her to give to the US Consulate in Bogota.
My question is: What evidence should I provide to show I am financial able to support her trip and time her so she will not be taken as a "public charge". Or is that more of a concern for Immigrant visa types?
I am wondering if I just have letters from my banks, letter from my employer and check stubs for the past 3 paydays is sufficient OR should I complete the entire I-134 Affidavit of Support Form.
Are others completing this form for Tourist Visa's? Is this accepted with the Tourist Visa form or is the only for Immigrant Visa types?
Please advise
Any help you can provide would be great.

Gator says on Dec 5, 2007, 07:02: No! She MUST stand on her own personal situation. IMHO, what you suggest would hurt rather than help. That form, I-134, is for an immigrant visa which might make the consular officer think, "Humm, likely not to return to Colombia." Gator says on Dec 5, 2007, 07:17: Buzbeecd, what the poster proposes is not an immigrant visa so the immediate relative factor would not apply. What the poster wondered was the I-134 helpful in HER obtaining a TOURIST visa. Her application must stand alone. No mention of "sponsor" was made. "Credidi pretio parvo emere et magno vendere tibi in animo fuisse!" . 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Even with letters of invitations from my mother who has a substancial amount of money in the bank. In fact my mother has even contacted several US senators who wrote letters to the embassy and they replied back with a no way. The US embassy is extremely difficult to talk to and everyone there is extremely sensitive. IF you don't talk to them like your sitting in church with a bunch of old ladies then they will immediately hang up on you without a word. They have even told me that I can't get an immigration visa for my wife. We are both law abiding and niether of us has ever committed any kind of crime but I'm starting to think the only way my wife can visit my family is through "el hueco"

buzbeecd says on Dec 5, 2007, 12:47: Help or Sponsor same difference. I wrote invitation letter had it notorized but it was not even looked at. We tried for tourist visa and my documents of support were refused becasue I am not blood relative. Only blood relative letter of support will be accepted. Don't waste your time trying they will just slam the window in your face. Try it but my heart cries for you because I know you will be disappointed.

mranderson says on Dec 5, 2007, 13:01: My wife has never been outside of colombia. When the consular general refused to grant her a tourist visa I told him that I need an immigration visa for her. He said he would not grant it because he doesn't believe my wife will immigrate. So, she can't get a tourist visa because he thinks she will overstay it and she can't get an immigration visa because he is convinced she will not stay.
