Is Medellin Safe for Americans?

Hi, I just found this site,

I have to come to Medellin for business next month and from everything I have heard it is very dangerous for Americans!

Is it?

Any advice?

The women are extremely dangerous. Be very careful!! They are actually feminine, nice; and to boot, very beautiful. You will never be able to go back to the USA.

Stay away....this is the last place Europeans and Americans should ever come! Better do the work via teleconference, and tell EVERYONE you know not to come here!

yeah, man, you better get the fuck out while you can. they shoot ya for practice. just don't spend another day there. get out, get out.;.;.and don't come back. couldn't stand the idea of you liking the place and, what?, staying??? never, go away. tell all your friends, too. just leave and don't come back.

what happens if you actually like the place and like i did 19 years ago, stayed? then you'ld be one more gringo/foreigner to have to share the place with. parish the thought. just go.

El Poblado.........these people above are just kidding around; i'll tell you the real truth that you can google some terms for further research.

There is a 50 year civil war going on between govt forces and the FARC. Right now, they completely control the countryside and are making inroads into the cities. Very often I take out my rifle and empty a couple of clips from my bedroom window.

BTW, do you think you could bring down an infra red scope for my rifle? It's getting tough to see these little bastards at night.

Keep in mind that 98.8% of the women here carry scopalamine, a date rape drug, that they use to rob gringos. Stay completely away from the women is my advice. We've seen many examples of this over the years from gringos who go out to the bars dancing and drinking.

But don't let this deter you from visiting......right now, the fuerzas de PBH are planning to liberate the Scottish Bar in Parque Lleras from the guerilleros. We could use your help.

A word of avise: Please stay away from this forum, we are all FARC informants.

And the men have been taken hostages but very ugly Colombian women.
Please show this poor next victim some pictures of how pathetic, homely the women are.

seriously, poblado....all male prisoners are forced to eat human sausage sandwiches and the women are forced to fornicate with the livestock...the insurgents are hoping to develop a new strain of far more attractive livestock. on the up side, the only good looking women are in the jungles with the insurgents wearing camo. they'll cut your heart out and eat it in front of you before you drop dead.

Hola El Poblado,

You say: "and from everything I have heard it is very dangerous for Americans!" I suggest you pay attention to: "from everything", especially State Department. Always remember, they know the truth about "EVERYTHING"!

Be safe. Quit your job. Save gas. Stay at home! Your couch is your friend. Enjoy your large screen LCD as you watch "your" government, ALL of it, ALL of them-millions of them, as day-by-day, they flush a great country down the toilet. Relax and enjoy! Frig morality, NOW it's about: GREED.

Guys
The original question only reflects the horrible misconception that most gringos have of our great country. In answer to that question. Use normal common sense. You wouldn't wander in various parts of NYC or other big cities anywhere in the world. The cities in Colombia are beautiful and generally safe except as noted above from the risk of falling for one or more of our Beautiful women.

Why is his name "El Poblado" when he has never been here nor lives here? Is there a neighborhood in Minneapoilis, Minnesota named El Pobaldo?

I was born in El Campo, Texas...so maybe?

El Campo, Tejas? A very dangerous place! I had to spend several very cold mornings (around 4:30 am) with a shotgun in my hand, in a farm field, looking up to the sky for some dangerous fowl. El Poblado, don't go to El Campo either!

The ONLY scary things about El Campo are the high percentage of inbred country-folk and the local Hospital which is now abandoned and used as the "haunted house" for halloweens!

I don't suggest visiting either one! :)

Everyone is conveniently omitting a common danger carrying the most import of all.

Throughout Colombia, you will encounter significant physical danger whilst merely going for a walk. This danger isn't other people or their freshly sharpened knives and speedy bullets - the danger is actually the sidewalk on which your two feet shall shuffle. If you don't keep an eagle eye on what is awaiting your footsteps, the rest of your body will soon follow said feet into a giant, refuse-filled hole that should have been repaired decades ago.

There are also tiny, camouflaged and firmly attached sidewalk obstacles that are allegedly in place to deter cars from driving on sidewalks. In reality, these camouflaged barriers serve only to torture innocent toes and entangle otherwise deft feet.

So . . . while walking . . . don't EVER look up.

Poblado.............I'm sure by now you've hopefully cancelled your trip because of all the danger involved.

I did want to post a picture of the general appearance of most colombian women. As you can see, they all have just one eyebrow, eyes set far apart, terrible smiles, and no shape to speak of.....................im sure you've heard by now that these are the ugliest women in the world...........and this is why.

believe me, you wouldn't have any fun in medellin at all..........

Gringoloid (et al)

I'm not the original poster, but thank you all for the info nonetheless. I too once harbored thoughts of visiting Medellin, but now know better.
While I'd heard about the druff traffickers and terrorists, the dangers of walking the sidewalks and of kidnapping by women is new to me, and I'm very grateful for the warning. At least, I now know to remain in New Jersey where it's safe. Thanks to those of you who've braved all the dangers so that the rest of us could be forewarned.

Medellin is not bad. These people just don't want to you to go b/c you're a gringo. I'm a gringo also that dated a girl from medellin for 2 years.

Maybe we shouldn't go and leave and stop all the $$$ billions of dollars the U.S. has sent to Colombia that has made places safer.......????? Wake up people and be nice - Do you want to be known as the wild wild west forever.
