i am talking about the berkley sanf francisco area where i wish there was a damn good colombian restaurant and they didnt charge 10 dollars for an aguila

Yep, No Colombian resturants in Bay Area........... I moved from San Diego to Berkeley, to go to UC Berkeley and there are no resturants in the Bay area only one in San Francisco on Valencia Street I think the address is 1530 or 1130 Valencia street there is the Majudual. That place is small, but you can buy Pony Malta y postabone soda with arepas de queso, and the juices mango, maracuja, guava and all.

I couldnt take it I decided to return to Colombia where the food is awesome and my year abroad is cheap $2500 tuition.

Take care eat well,

Pete

No no no no... my fiance (from Medellin) and I lived on the Penninsula... there is a VERY good Colombian restaurant in San Jose. She also brought me to the one on Valencia street, and the one in San Jose is much better (its owned by people from Medellin).

Jesus, I can't remember the name of the place!! Its now a combo of Colombian and Mexican food (my fiance was REAL mad about that) but you can get good Colombian food there. It says "COLOMBIAN" on a big sign in the front, and the letters are gold, blue, and red. It is not cheap, but nothing in the Bay Area is cheap. Its in a stip mall out in the middle of nowhere... I'll find out the name of the place and than post it for you guys.

Great Colombian Rest. In San Jose There's a great on in San Jose off the Almaden Expressway. My wife and I love it. It used to be Co & Mexican food but the new owners, Calenos, changed that. The website is:
http://www.rinconcitocolombiano.com/

Only downside, no Poker beer, my personal favorite.

Majudual what's up with the place on Valencia? Is it any good? Is it authentic? I have been wanting to try it except it does get somewhat mixed reviews. I've heard people say that it isn't authentic. I believe it is also part mexican too. i think the wife is colombian and the husband may be mexican.

Argtat - do you have any experience teaching spanish. i would love to learn from a colombian speaker. let me know.

Bay Area Restaurants I have actually been to both the Colombian restaurants mentioned here. The one on Valencia in the Mission (El Majahual 1142 Valencia 415-821-7514) is both Colombian and also has food from El Salvador. The owner is Colombian and the cooks are from El Salvador but the owner taught them how to prepare the dishes. The food there is EXCELLENT. I am from Houston where there are tons of Colombian restaurants and I think the food is great though there is very little variety (there's much more on the El Salvador menu). The empanadas are really good too-- I heard people come from Sacramento just to get them.

The one in San Jose was a total waste of time. It is of course bigger, has more vairety and has been totally renovated but the food was terrible. I wouldn't recommend it.

I hope this helps.
