Hey
I'm heading to Medellin this summer and will probably be staying with a family and I've been told that among other things a good gift for them would be spirits. Do many Colombians drink spirits i.e. Whiskey, and if so does anyone know if the brands of Bushmills, Midleton, Jameson, Famous Grouse, Teachers etc. are already freely available in Colombia?
Another obvious gift would be cystral. But tastes vary differently across countries e.g. we Brits like it nicely cut whereas I hear the Belgians will only accept it if it is plain. Is there anything I should be wary about if bringing such a gift to Colombians?
As always any help is appreciated.
Conor

I think you can find some of this whiskeys in Colombia either in the Dutty free Or in an expensive wine shop. The most common one I seen is the Chivas Regal, but The Chivas regal sello negro I think is very expensive. Good whiskeys are expensive in Colombia, so this would be a good gift, and the Cristals they will love them, I took some to my mum and aunty and the neighbours went crazy about them. Make sure you take some with nice designs. engage brain before opening mouth |

SingSling says on May 11, 2005, 04:28: Carrefour had a pretty decent selection running from around 60,000 to 90,000 for the top stuff (JW blue, Chivas etc) which is not out of line with the rest of the world, we ended up getting a brand that I had never heard of but was assured that everyone drank from a smaller shop for 40,000. If you already know that the people you are giving this present to are whisky drinkers then a single malt (Glenmorangie, Glenfiddich, Laphroaig, Talisker are some of the more widely available ones) would go down well, but buy it in your country of origin, if still in the UK then Heathrow airport has a fantasic selection in the Whiskies of the World shop (where they will also let you sample some!!).
