I am visiting south america this summer and although I was not planning to visit colombia I have booked a flight from Lima to Madrid that connects in Bogota (Lima-Bogota-Madrid). I am an Irish citizen and I only just found out that I require a visa to visit Colombia. My question is this - since I am only changing flights and not leaving Bogota airport will I still need a visa? Or is there a transit visa I require instead? If I do need a visa this is quite a big problem as I leave on Tuesday!
Thanks in advance.

You would simply remain in the secured immigration area at ElDorado airport while you wait for your connection. It shouldn't be any problem. Hopefully you'll hear soon from someone who has done it with an irish passport .

But I was speaking to an Irish teacher in Medellin who was telling me that ever since the 3 IRA guys were caught the Government is incredibly strict with anyone on an Irish passport (ironic since they were travelling on British passports). So chances our you'll need something even if it is only a transit.
