Iran To Build $200 Million USD Hydroelectric Dam For Nicaragua; Bush Adm Alarmed

Opponents of Iran's deepening ties to Latin America are suspicious of its plans to build Nicaragua a new dam.

RIO BLANCO, Nicaragua -- Iran's plan to build a $200 million hydroelectric dam in this energy-starved country is raising concerns here and in Washington about its mounting influence in Latin America.

The plant proposal is part of a push to wean this oil-addicted country -- 80 percent of electricity is supplied by fuel-burning plants -- off increasingly expensive crude and help stem an energy crisis that has created electricityrationing blackouts.

The dam is the latest among a handful of projects that Iran plans to build in Central America's most impoverished nation. Others include the construction of 10,000 homes for the poor, providing 4,000 farming tractors, and a joint effort with Venezuela to link deep-water container ports on the Caribbean and Pacific coasts. In turn, Nicaragua is to export coffee and other products to Iran.

And to think, in spite of this, Washington is still Pumping Aid money into Nicaragua. Someday we(usa) will wise Up and start helping those here in the US, the American Taxpayer.

The US spreads its influence by invading other countries, slaughtering thousands, and installing puppets leaders in power, but only those they can control. Yet somehow, the US administration is alarmed and suspisious about Iran building a dam in Nicaragua, along with the construction of 10,000 homes for the poor, providing 4,000 farming tractors, and a joint effort with Venezuela to link deep-water container ports on the Caribbean and Pacific coasts.

The reason the US sends blood money, otherwise known as Aid, is to gain influence in many poorer countries around the globe, because the US does not do anything out of the kindness of their own heart.

There is no need to help US taxpayers because so many dumb Americans are easily influenced, with less money in your pocket, you're too busy to complain about anything, even if your consititutional rights are being violated.

It's time for Americans to WAKE THE FUCK UP! Or, as miamimike said, WISE UP!

I know and see a lot of Veterans who would appreciate taking some of that foreign Aid money and properly/adequately funding our VA Medical System,,,Mexico is the latest to grab their share of Aid money for Drug Fighting! Call it "Plan Mexico" like another plan we are all familiar with. Nevermind that one of the Richest Men in the World, Carlos Slim, who lives in Mexico, could easily cough up some millions to fund the Drug Battle in his Homeland. No wonder the world treats us like Suckers/Chumps...One deserves the treatment they receive,,,

miamimike,

I hear you. It's all up to the American people to demand change, but if you speak up you're labeled anti-American, be a good American and keep your complaints to yourself, that's what the US wants from all good Americans. I LOVE this country, but I'm NOT a good American.

Best of luck. Didn't you get your tax relief check from George Bush? Look around at all the Cubans getting a free ride in your area. Do you really think Uncle Sam is going to give you a hand, when you are now the minority? If you change your last name is Castro, you may still be able to get some help.

HE-Yes that Cuban Adjustment Act as well as the Wet/dry foot law is extremly nervewracking to the few americans here in Miami as well to the rest of the Immigrant Groups to whom such laws do not apply. If there ever was a Law whose time has come to repeal it, this is it! That damn Cuban adjustment law of 1966 that grants fast track permenent residency to Cubans in 1 yr, 1 day under the wet'dry foot law.

Maybe its an atomic dam with some secret purposes we don't know about ?

Today's newspapers are also saying that the US congress approved $400 million for Iranian opposition groups last year[1]

What kind of opposition organizations is the US funding?

"Among groups inside Iran benefiting from U.S. support is the Jundallah, also known as the Iranian People's Resistance Movement, according to former CIA officer Robert Baer. Council on Foreign Relations analyst Vali Nasr described it to Hersh as a vicious organization suspected of links to al Qaeda."

Apparently, groups that cut people's heads off on camera[2].
